Plans for Sunday in Paris.

My wife and I will be in Paris for 10 days including a weekend of course. I have noticed that Sunday a lot of restaurants are closed. Our hotel is in St Germain. Will we have problems finding restaurants and open shops, museums and places to explore? Thank you in advance. Look forward to experienced travelers input.

Many restaurants and shops do close, but you’ll still find places open. It may just take a little wandering. Doesn’t seem to be much rhyme or reason to it. I’d say at least 1 in 4 cafes stay open, so in those popular areas of St. Germain/Latin Quarter you shouldn’t have much trouble.

You will have no problems with places being open on a Sunday.

You can go to the Marais, when the shops and cafes open around 12:00.
There is Victor Hugo's House, for one - and you can go to Carette at Place des Vosges when you are done.

Mmmm yes. Marais on Sunday. One of my falafel-eating days.

Just to clarify, while some shops and restaurants close, others are open. And museums close on Mondays or Tuesdays, but are open on Sundays.

Also makes for a great day to taste a tajine or couscous in a maghreb-style restaurant.

Shops in tourist areas are more apt to be open on Sundays. Many street markets are functioning until about 2pm.

Many. restaurants close Saturday and Sunday. Many don't. I would always make a reservation a day or two ahead; you get a better table and a guarantee of a place. There will be many places open and that you can just walk in but in my experience better small neighborhood places book up especially on the weekend and the ones you can walk in are not always very good. Paris is full of fairly terrible restaurants and you want to eat at good ones.

All museums and similar tourist sites are open on the weekends; they close either Monday or Tuesday. Most shops close but those in very touristy areas like the Marais, Champs Elysees and Montmartre are often or usually open. Grocery stores are closed for the most part. Parks, the river cruises, Eiffel Tower etc are all open on weekends.

When we are in Paris on Sunday we generally do one of two things. Early..we go to Porte de Vanves flea market..usually we get there by 8 am or maybe a little earlier.. The we get on the metro again after a quick hour or two and go to the Rue Mouffetard Sunday Market. We generally get something to eat at the market or a rotisserie chicken and potatoes on the Main Street and eat at the bottom of the hill in the little park... Sometimes there is singing and dancing going on at the bottom of the hill. Not a fancy meal but fun!

How about a lovely brunch at Jacquemart Andre’s restaurant after touring this lovely private museum then, a stroll through Parc Monceau? Lovely area.

Bill - We arrived in Paris on a Sunday and had our aparthotel make dinner reservations for us at Le Petit Chatelet, based upon a mention I saw on this forum. The wood fired steaks were excellent and we were very happy with our meals. As the weather was pleasant we chose to eat outside on the front patio. The restaurant is located across from Notre Dame and next door to Shakespeare and Co. There is a cool, small park right there in the vicinity, so if you arrive early you have places to sit or browse. Regardless of where you choose to eat, do make a reservation.

Tavline is an Israeli spot, but you have to reserve. It's seriously good.
25 rue du Roi de Sicile - in the 4th arrondissement.
