Planning a new trip. Suggestions please!

We've been to France several times. We visited Normandy, Loire Valley, Provence, Dordogne, Colmar, Burgundy, Basque France and the Riviera. Oh, and, of course, Paris! We've been thinking of heading back to France and wondered about visiting the following: Lyon, Annecy, Ribeauville or one of the smaller wine towns, Strasbourg, possibly Nancy, Reims and then ending in Paris. We would have a car, probably picking it when leaving Lyon and dropping it off in Reims. The length of our trip is flexible although 3 weeks would likely be the max.

Is there break point between Annecy and Strasboug

Any suggestions for better/different locations? We're open to other locations in France

Approximate time frame?

We like good food, but aren't foodies per se, love architecture and smaller towns.

Suggestions appreciated! Thank you!

Strasbourg sounds like you are repeating Colmar except bigger city.
If you want a French influence experience just go from Annecy to the area in Switzerland around Geneva (Romandy)
on the way to Colmar, I mean Strasbourg as your break point.

for something a bit different, Gascony.

From the NYTimes a very interesting article about Gascony. You have to dig a little in the article, but they do talk about several beautiful smal towns like Lectoure, fortified village of Fourcès, the medieval bastion of Larressingle and the prosperous village of Montréal du Gers.

I think you should tell us what you liked about all of those other places.

What did I like about the other places? That would be a far longer post than I think anyone would want to read. History, architecture, cathedrals, cemeteries, half-timbered buildings, markets, ruins, beautiful countryside we love them all. Oh and definitely the wine!

Well, that does sound like Alsace, though you have already visited there. Do you want more? It would certainly fit into your itinerary.

It also sounds like many other parts of France, including Burgundy and the Rhone. I think Lyon is fabulous, if you don't mind a big city, and would make a convenient stop with the other new places you mention.

We did almost the same trip last year - Approximately 3 weeks starting with train from CDG to Lyon, picked up a car after 3 nights in Lyon, drove to Annecy. Spent 3 nights in Annecy, including a day trip to Chamoix. We left the car on the French side of Geneva airport and took a train to Montreux for one night. From there took the Golden route train through Switzerland, ending in Lucerne. After 3 night stay in Lucerne, took the train to Colmar for 3 nights, rented a car for a day to see the smaller towns. From there we took a train to Strasbourg for 2 nights, then train to Paris for a week's stay. It all went smoothly and we had a great trip!
