We will be in Dijon for several days. Trying to decide on how many days, and if we can do Beaune justice by visiting by train. We only take public transport. Or should we stay in both places. We would rather not have to move often, but three days in one place is acceptable, just not one or two nights.
There is a woman in Dijon who occasionally posts here. She has an apartment, about which I know nothing, that she rents to tourists. Www.myhomeindijon.com. Worth a try.
Hi,
I have stayed in the Quality Hotel du Nord in Place Darcy in Dijon. It was reasonably priced and well-placed between the station and the old part of town - easy enough to drag your suitcase to. But there are dozens of hotels in Dijon and I'm sure there are many good options or the apartment above.
Beaune is easily accessible by train from Dijon. It takes around an hour. There is lots to see in Beaune so start early and try to go on market day if you can.
Personally, I would be tempted to base myself in Beaune and visit Dijon for the day.
I've never stayed at the one Norma mentions, but I've sent several people there. One person sent me a pm to thank me because no only did they enjoy it so much, but also the owner was very helpful and gracious.
I think most folks would recommend Beaune over Dijon. But they're not that far apart, you can judge for yourself. Dijon is handy because that's where the TGV stops.
If you want a splurge, outside Dijon there's a wonderful hotel called Abbaye de la Bussiere. I think they will give you a lift back and forth into town but it really requires a car. But then you can do Rick's recommended driving tours of the wine region and do whatever you choose in Beaune.
We have visited Dijon several times and have always stayed at myhomeindijon.com. Corrine is an excellent hostess and even meets you at the train station. You will not be disappointed with this choice. It is very easy to take the train to Beaune and spend time there. You could easily return to Dijon by train and keep your place to sleep in Dijon. You can visit so many of the tourist highlights in Dijon by walking. The apartment is right next to the Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy. Enjoy your trip.
