Anyone know where would I find the best pizza in Paris? My teenage son is pizza-crazed, and it has occurred to me that almost two weeks without pizza might send him into shock. If I must spend one meal of our French vacation eating pizza, I want to make sure it is fabulous.
I too have a pizza-crazed teenage son. What kind of pizza does yours like? There are a lot of pizza places in Paris. If he likes New York slice style pizza, you could grab lunch one day at Nick's Pizza on Rue du Faubourg Montmartre in the 9th arrondissement. Unless it has changed, it has no tables and you eat in by standing or snagging a stool at counters along the walls. If you want sit down meals with sophisticated pizza and the possibility of other dishes, any of the places in the Big Mamma Group should work. A lot of teenagers like Pink Mamma (my 15-year old son does) and my family really likes the vibe at East Mamma and Ober Mamma. My family also really enjoys Louie Louie on Rue de Charonne in the 11th. We also had good pizza at Pizza Caratello in Montmartre. We had planned to try a place called Da Graziella in the 10th during our 2020 trip but alas that trip did not happen so I cannot speak of it from personal experience unlike the other places mentioned.
IIRC….Pizza Popolare on Rue Reaumur in the 2nd had a long line down the street waiting to get in when I walked past…also part of the Big Mamma Group.
I’ve heard there’s great pizza in Marais, but I don’t know where exactly. I’ve had some on Champs Élysées, which was good but I’m sure you can get some better elsewhere (they did have my husband’s and my favorite beer we haven’t had in 18 years there so that was a huge plus!). Pinterest might be a great spot to read personal blogs!
I happen to find French pizza to be my favorite. They're rather adventurous with their flavors and ingrediants. I would say first and foremost try an italian restaurant and pizza at one of them. One of my favorite pizza places is near the Opera on Rue Caumartin - Pizza Fierenze. It is right next to the Olympia theatre and you can see many autographed celebrity photos there---like Celine Dion. My favorite is the chevre-miel (honey and goat cheese)!
I do not eat pizza, but I understand the best in Paris is at La Manifattura on blvd Montparnasse between the iconic restaurants le Dôme and la Coupole.
Exactly — I hadn’t thought of the difference between what we're used to in the States, and the Italian-run pizza places here (which i obviously adore). I had a friend coming with his two sons, and I thought to take them for pizza when someone warned me that the boys might be disappointed by Italian-style pizza. I would never have thought of that, but it's true they are pretty different things!
Knife and fork or fingers in Paris ? 🤣
The trick is to fold the wedge in half! That's what I do, and it works.
And yes, plenty of great pizza places in Paris, there has really been a wave of good pizza in the past 5 years or so. Recommendations depend on where you are staying: there are so many good places these days that it is hardly worth crossing town for one. But you can't go wrong with one of the "Mamma group" restaurants (where lines can be long), or Bijou near Montmartre, or Popu Bistro near rue Cler...and many others.
Bijou. . . sigh . . . alas, I think Gennaro Nasti is no longer the owner (this is what our server told us when we last had dinner there in August) so I hope they will keep his high standards !
Peppe in the 20th, Popine in Ménilmontant or Montorgeuil, the list of real Italian pizza places in Paris goes on and on (luckily for us !)
My favourite pizza in Paris is Pizza Di Loretta in the 9th. It was next door to the place I stayed in 2015 , and reminded me of pizza we had in Rome. It is run by people from Italy. It comes out on a big rectangular pan, and they cut you what you want and weigh it. It is yummy! I just returned a few weeks ago, and it still was great! I see they have a number of restaurants in other arrondisements now to make it easier to get it!
I haven't been to enough pizza places in Paris to really be able to say what is the best place. I'm a very experienced pizza eater however and I do believe that Pizza Momo on rue Rivoli in the Marais makes a very good pizza. It compares favorably to the best places I have been in the US. It's where I head for pizza when I'm in the area.
