do not have a trip planned yet but would like to get an idea of the first day pickup point in paris order to book a hotel as close as possible. the trip would be the 11 day tour including paris and normandy, etc.

I’m not sure what you mean by ‘pickup point’. Are you taking the Rick Steves Paris and the Heart of France tour? If so, they will let you know which hotel you all will occupy in Paris (they have booked for you), and you will just need to go there to meet with the group.

The first 3 nights of the Paris and Heart of France tour will be in a Paris hotel and as mentioned above, you'll get that hotel name within a few days of signing up for the tour. I generally book a couple of nights ahead of the tour in the same hotel as I hate to change lodging and like to arrive ahead of time. You'll also get your end hotel at the same time. When I did this tour it was a different hotel for the beginning and end. I liked the beginning hotel so much I've stayed there on my own several times!
The hotels do differ from tour date to tour date so my experience and my hotels may be different from the tour you sign up for.

If you have already received your confirmation and first hotel, I’d find it on google maps and try and stay there or one that is close.
