I have recently returned from France. I have a French FREE mobil phone account. Since being in the USA I have received a text from FREE stating I can continue to use their service to place local calls while in the USA. The instruction is to enter +1, the area code followed by the remaining seven digits. I did so and the calls can not be placed. ‘ Failed’ The SIM card and the phone are the same ones I had been successfully while in France. What am I doing wrong ?
If you have saved all of your phone numbers using the international dial standard, (+) then country code, followed by a 10 digit number for N America numbers, a 9 digit number for French numbers, theoretically your calls should complete successfully, no matter from where they are dialed.
However, I have found that Free´s claim that their SIMs can be used for calls originating in N America, is overstated. Sometimes calls connect properly, sometimes they do not. Other than confirming you're dialing properly, there is really nothing you can do other than to complain to FREE when you return to France.
you left out all punctuation and spaces: +12125559980 right?
you left out all punctuation and spaces
These are optional on any phone I have used. The + dialing scheme ignores inputs humans use for readability.
