Pet shipment from France to the UK

Hi everyone,

I'm about to fly to the UK for postgraduate study and I must bring my pet dog FiFi with me (I'm from Taiwan). My course start date is around mid-Septmber, and I've been searching for available flights for FiFi since May. It should be easy to bring her from Taiwan directly to London in the same flight with me. Now due to covid-19, there's no such option...

After intensive searching, asking, discussing with my travel agent, the more feasible way would be sending FiFi to France by air cargo, and then transit her to London by road journey. I will still take the direct flight to London since there's no need to quarantine for people from Taiwan, but not from France.

I found 2 animal transport suppliers in Europe, Go Fetch and C Four Paws. The charge from CDG France to London by car is about £1,000-£1,200. Is this price reasonable?

Is there any other option (cheaper option lol) for FiFi to transit from France to the UK? Please give me some suggestions or experience sharing.....I'm desperately in need of that!!!

Much appreciated!!!!

Is your flight nonstop from Taiwan? If so, you are right at this moment (government changes its mind on very short notice or no notice). But if you transit in a country without the exemption (for example Dubai) you will have to.

Does FiFi have her approved chip and will you be able to get her papers 3 days before travel?

Your courier will probably need 2 days plus a hotel so the prices they quote don't sound silly to me, especially in Covid time.

But I don't have pets so I don't know...

The UK has stringent rules on how to import a pet, even before COVID and it is not necessarily economical. Here are the requirements from the government website: https://www.gov.uk/bring-pet-to-uk

Pay particular attention to the section regarding approved routes. Good luck.

I don't believe that Folkestone Taxi is an authorised channel for importing a pet. They are excellent from what I hear for carrying a pet back and forth for a UK registered pet once they have already arrived - perhaps for a holiday or moving from England to Europe.

As others have said you must use an authorised route and an authorised agent.

If you sent FiFi via Paris who would meet her out of the cargo facility and get her to your shipping agent into England?

You said that you are "about to fly". How much time have you got to organise this?

I'm sorry to say, but this plan sounds very risky to me. I would not let my pet travel without me. It appears from the website referenced by joe32F, that the UK may not allow the immigration of pets from Taiwan.

I would never send my dog as cargo. Seen and heard too many stories of injury, abuse, death, etc. And even if you don't have that experience, can you imagine how scary it would be for the dog? Without you? In a noisy plane and airport? With strangers around moving her everywhere? With all due respect, if you love your dog, I would find a family member for her to live with while you are away.

I am inclined to agree with Phil.

Looking around the UK pet importation pages, I see there are lots of conditions you have to be sure to meet in order for them to allow you in with your pet — it also seems very rare that they let pets in without being with their owner. You need to really read this all very carefully. It is no small matter.
