Personal tour guide recommendations for Normandy

We're going to Normandy in August and would like a personal tour guide for the WWII sites. The main person Rick recommends is already booked. Does anyone have other individuals they know of?

I'd also appreciate hearing recent reviews of tour companies you've used. Merci.

Margaret,

Without knowing which tour guide is booked, I'll just suggest some of the usual favourites.....

  • Dale Booth
  • Chris Emery (visitdday.com)
  • Paul Woodage (day historian.com)
  • Overlord Tours

I'll try to add a few more when I'm back on a regular computer.

Normandy44-tours.com....Olivier! He also did well with our teenage boy.

Seconding the recommendation on Bertrand Saundrais if it's in your budget. Our day with him (driving his comfortable SUV) was educational, entertaining, and a highlight of our vacation. (You can probably find plenty of threads with useful tips by using the Search field above and entering something like D-Day or WWII.)

I'd shy away from Mr. Booth. Perhaps he's improved his schtick in recent years, but he was painful to listen to on our visit in 2012. Almost laughable.

+1 for Chris Emery (visitdday.com), spent a great day with him last summer. Strongly recommend.

We used Overlord for The Beaches, Cemeteries, small towns with historic WWII events. It was perfect - guide Adrian was very personable and knowledgable .
We used him another day for all day tour to Mont San Michel.
