Paying for taxi from CDG to hotel on Left Bank

I am planning to take a taxi when I arrive at CDG to my hotel on the Left Bank. I understand it is a flat fee 65 Euros. I currently have 64 Euros (1 Euro short). If I pay the taxi driver 70 Euros, will I receive 5 Euros back as change or will the driver keep it as a tip?

Thank you in advance for your advice.

He will fumble for change and eventually come up with it. You can also pay with a CC or Apple Pay.

or will the driver keep it as a tip?

Only if you let him.

No seriously- I am having trouble making sense of your question.
If you now have 64 euros that tells me you have 4 euro coins. Then you say you will pay him 70 euros- where are you getting the extra 6 euros and won't at least 1 euro of that be in coin?

Just pay with credit card.

Use the official Paris taxi line from CDG. And use a credit card. They are all set up for it.

Just beware...even in the official taxi line, verify before getting in that the driver will take a credit card. The first taxi I started to get in, the driver said no, with some reason like his machine wasn't working. So I went to the next taxi.

Linda is so right, always make sure the driver will take your CC, not all will, official taxi line or not.

This is just another scam ("scam" may be harsh, they are just trying not to declare the wages for tax purposes). But the machine works just as it is required to by law. Just offer a credit card or nothing and the driver will find a way to make it work.

Phil, i’m a female by myself when i take a taxi from CDG (w family we take the RER) and even though i speak French, not all taxi drivers speak French well enough to understand them, and i just don’t want any unpleasantness at the end of the ride. You are correct, but i’d rather ask up front and if they say No, i just take the next taxi in the line.

I think that it should be emphasized that for a Taxi Parisien driver to be legally on the road carrying passengers, his credit card machine must be fully functional and must accept and process Visa/MC.
