We aren't sure, but there may have been a ticket on our rental car after parking in the lot at the tapestry. My husband saw something on the windshield but figured he'd get it later. Dumb thing to do, it blew off. We went back to check the area next day to see if a permit was needed but saw no signs however many of the cars did have permits in the window. We noticed in other areas of Bayeaux notices for whatever stuck in their windshield. We were expecting the rental car agency to say something or deduct it from the 'holding' fee they charged but nothing. At least not yet. We're back home but does anyone know the fines if it should be one and what to do?
The same thing happened to William the Conquerer, and his punishment was getting stuck in the quicksand surrounding Mont St. Michel. Seriously, looks like you got away with it.
If it was a parking ticket and you are seen to have ignored it the expectation would be that it would grow.
A very small chance would have been that the rental agency could have just paid the fine for you; more likely they could be in the process of providing your details and then they would charge your card to provide that data, then sometime later the authorities could contact you with a now somewhat larger bill.
How long ago did this incident happen?
We were in Bayeau on Friday Sept 19th. We questioned the rental desk when returning but he said he had no information. He said he didn't have access to the rental contract because we were returning the car to a different location. I'm thinking it was definitely a ticket since we had a strange phone call several days later asking for the VIN# for their records.
Don't worry, if there's money at stake the rental car company will find you. They already have your cc number.
I would not be surprised if even months from now you get a notice that your CC will be billed for the parking ticket.
