As part of trip around Provence/mountains in a few weeks we'll be passing through Aix for 1 night, staying at a hotel without parking. I can see there are lots of parking garages in the city (we'll be a few streets away from Cours Maribeau). Just wondered if anyone had relatively recent experience choosing one. We'll be driving into the city from the east and have an economy size rental car. Many thanks!
My first thought is to ask the hotel for a suggestion/recommendation.
It seems unlikely you would be the first guest to be in that situation
We just spent a month in Aix. While we did not have a car, we walked everywhere. I would say a parking garage on the north or east sides of Old Town would be better and less congested to get in and out. That said, I would just stay away from the Gare Routier (bus station) and the Fontaine de la Rotonde. That is the more trafficked part of town.
Perhaps your hotel can recommend a parking facility with 24 hour surveillance. Is there a particular reason why you selected a hotel that doesn’t offer secure parking? I spend quite a bit of time In Aix en Provence, always with a car, and even with what I thought was careful behavior, my car has had 2 break-ins in parking structures (nothing showing inside, locked, near the parking office and the cameras.)
If you are still open to changing hotels, consider Hotel Mozart hotelmozart.fr I’ve stayed there and recommended to others. Free locked parking and interior parking for a small fee. Coming from the east on autoroute A8, easy to access and close to city center.
