parking in Lyon on weekends

We'll be arriving in Lyon by train on a Saturday. We plan to spend the night, then head out the next day in a rental car. Car rental offices are closed on Sundays, so we'll have to rent the car on Saturday. Bad enough that we'll be renting the car for an extra (unused) day, but in addition RS says that daytime parking rates are high near his recommended hotels on Presqu'ile, so I'd like to keep those parking costs to a minimum.

Does anyone know if parking rates go down on weekends in Lyon? Maybe just on Sunday? Or maybe there are more (free) on-street spots available on Sunday in the Presqu'ile area? Any ideas, or will I just have to pay for the mismatch between my travel plans and car rental office hours?

Parking in Lyon is tres cher. The underground garages are convenient but expect to pay about 40€ per nite. No discounts on the weekends, sorry. It came as a shock to me when exiting the garage. That machine just kept devouring cash.

I just checked with AutoEurope and the Dollar Rent-a-car office at Part Dieu rail station is open Sundays. You might want to call them and speak to a customer service rep for other possibilities.

Thanks Philip. I had taken a quick look but didn't check Dollar. What I saw confirmed what I have experienced in the U.S. so I didn't keep looking. I'll look more thoroughly now. If Dollar is open on Sunday maybe someone else is too.

I've also been thinking about the possibility of parking away from Presqu'ile and taking the metro to retrieve my car on Sunday. Does anyone know of parking garages in Lyon with more reasonable rates (maybe near the train station or airport?)

I came across an app called Parkopedia. Turns out we never used it, so can't comment on reliability or accuracy, but you might check it out.

Ooops. Turns out there are plenty of car rental companies in Lyon open on Sunday. My initial search for this information was way too casual.

Maybe this information will be helpful to someone else.

The Europcar website shows that its Part-Dieu office is open parts of the day on Sunday. See: https://applications.europcar.com/stationgeolocation/CDN/files/LYSL01.pdf
And Parkopedia shows several parking lots in that area with what appear to be lower rates than on Presque'Il. And having driven once in Lyon, I can tell you that navigating in the area away from the center is much easier than right in the center.
