Park Hyatt Vendome

Is the Park Hyatt Vendome worth the money? This is my wife and I first time in Paris and want to make it very special for her.

It wouldn't be worth the money to me! I got two free nights there in 2013 thanks to the amazing Hyatt Chase Visa credit card promotion (which finally seems to have changed unfortunately - two free nights at ANY Hyatt hotel was a pretty sweet deal!). It was a super nice hotel, for sure, maybe the nicest I've stayed at, but much too rich for my blood. I've stayed at other really nice hotels before that have a much lower retail price than this place.

Plus, I didn't really care the location all that much. Not a bad location mind you, but it's not a particularly charming arrondissement, either.

worth the money? how much are they asking (maybe it is cyberscam) where you feel to ask such question?

That is about the most subjective question I can imagine. How can anyone know what a given commodity is worth to you. I just looked at 3 nights midweek in November, and it is not all that bad if you prepay. But keep in mind, that individual rooms vary, and a the room with a terrace overlooking Place Vendome is not what you'll see when you look at a room price on the internet first go around. They go for a lot more.

I doubt if a whole lot of people on this forum have staid there and even then, you'd get an opinion of what is was worth to them, not you.

You might be better asking for people's favorite special room in a lesser Paris hotel.

You can get an advance purchase double room for 689 EU for 1 night.
After that, I'd go to another hotel.

The area around Vendome is extremely expensive and most people can't afford anything in the shop windows.

Given the high cost I would want a better location.
As another poster mentioned there is nothing wrong with the location (super safe and all that) but it doesn't have much charm.

I appreciate your sentiments on making the trip special for your wife.

Personally, I would prefer splurging on a nice meal and tickets to the opera or a concert than a fancy hotel room.

We prefer to travel much closer to the ground. We just returned from Paris where we stayed in a charming but modest B&B that rented out only one room. Our hosts provided a wonderful breakfast each morning. They would have given us our privacy, but we insisted they and her elderly mother join us. Their cat instantly accepted us and he would sit in my wife's lap and quietly purr while she ate.

We shared stories of our lives and we got to know a wonderful French family. No matter how fancy, there's no hotel in Paris that would have provided such a rich experience.

689 EU plus room tax for 3 nights = 2,076 EU, roughly...
She must be very special.

The question was, worth the money. Using points is different, not your "own" money.

Probs worth the points...

If you're paying with points - then yes! By all means! I, personally, like the neighborhood. One of my favorite cafes is near by, as well as cinemas and other good restaurants.

But I agree, there are better hotels at much better deals. In fact, just nearby is my favorite hotel in Paris - Hotel Saint Petersbourg. They used to be a wonderful 3-star hotel but have since added a new star and upped their prices like crazy - so now it's a part of my past but it's still affordable compared the Hyatt - and MUCH more French.

Will the points expire? Can you not use them elsewhere soon? If yes to either - then book the Park Hyatt Vendome. My two free nights were good for only a year - use 'em or lose 'em - so it was an easy choice for me!

Yeah big difference here OP ; would have been better to disclose that originally.
As a off and on follow of some of the point system websites ; for Hyatt points the Park Hyatt's are usually considered the very best use of your points to maximize their value.

Yes big difference if you are staying for free. If I were paying for a big fancy Paris hotel, I'd probably go somewhere else with a bit more glamor and history. But if I could stay at the Hyatt Vendôme for free, i wouldn't sneeze at it. (I've only ever been in the bar there, not the rooms).

Sorry everyone for not clarifying points instead of cash. We originally were going to pay with cash, then I remembered I could transfer Chase Points to the Hyatt program.
