Paris with kids in December

Any suggestions for Paris with kids in December? I am also looking for suggestions for places to stay. I want to be close to public transport so I booked a hotel in Montmartre but am now reading about all the sex shops in the neighborhood on reviews. Ugh. I don’t mind some interesting conversations with my daughter if we happen upon a shop or 2 but I don’t know if I want to stay in that area for a week.
Our budget is in the medium range (does not have to be the cheapest price).
Thank you!

Hi Tanis, I think Montmartre is a bit out of the way for a family’s first time week long stay. Look for a hotel in the 4th, 5th, 6th or 7th arrondissments to be closer to the Eiffel Tower, museums, etc. I’ve never been to Paris for the holidays, but I bet it will be beautifully decorated. Have fun.

"Our budget is medium range."

Could you tell us what that means in euros (or dollars). Your medium may not be my medium.

And while you are at it, please add the ages of the children. The sun is going down around 4 p.m. if not earlier at that time of the year, and a 12-year-old may cope better than one of 5.
A bustling area with lots of cafes, shops, hotels and the St-Martin canal is around Place de la Republic, with at least three Metro lines coming through the central square.

Yes, Montmartre might not be the best place to home base with children. Steep hills, etc. Anywhere else closer in to the center will be more appropriate for you.

Check Paris Perfect for their apartments. I have used them three times in the past and will use them again when I return to Paris. Unlike in the USA children are not free in hotels I have researched hence my apartment recommendation. I would also look at AirBNB but have not used them in Paris.

Any type of sex shops you might run into are really not an issue unless you make it one.. You''re not going to see anything from the street and you are otherwise perfectly safe.

However, these shops are typically scattered near Place de Clichy, not really up on Montmartre. Of far greater concern with children might be the steep uphill grades of Montmartre. In December, you might want to be closer to the 9th arrondissement, or even farther south, which will have better public transportation options than will Montmartre.

Thank you all! I’m definitely switching hotels.
My daughter is 11 and she loves mythology, art history and most any guided tour.
