Paris which hotel? Hotel Atmospheres vs Hotel Caron-Latin Quarter vs Le Marais

We have narrowed down our hotel choices for our 6 night stay in Paris to either the Hotel Atmospheres (Latin Quarter) or Hotel Caron (Le Marais-)

Both get excellent reviews on TripAdvisor.

Has anyone recently stayed at either location willing to share their experience & impression of the hotel?
Can anyone suggest one over the other?
Latin Quarter vs Le Marais?
Transportation(metro, buses) connections easier in Latin vs Le Marais?

I will be traveling with my 28 year old daughter and this will be her 1st time in Europe.

We will be in Paris May 18, arriving via Gare du Nord and departing Charles de Gaulle.

Your help would be appreciated.

I know the location of Hotel Caron and it is excellent. Close to St. Paul Metro, short walk to the Seine and the Islands. On a short side street between Rue de Rivoli with lots of shops and the very charming Place Marche St. Catherine with some cafes. Also right around the corner from my favorite crepe restaurant La Cider in du Marais. I have stayed in the Latin Quarter in the past and personally prefer Le Marais. Both have tourists, but I think the Marais has a more gentle vibe. Have a lovely trip.

I guess it's all a matter of opinion because I find the part of Latin Quarter near Hotel Atmospheres to feel less overrun by tourists than Le Marais. Frankly, both hotel are good choices, I find it slightly easier to get to CDG or to or from Gare du Nord by mass transit from the area near Hotel Atmospheres because it is only a ten minute walk from Saint-Michel-Notre-Dame and the RER B. But if you plan to go by taxi, the only difference is the 5 euro difference in the flat rate for the taxi to CDG and maybe 10 euro difference for the taxi from Gare du Nord.

JHK, thank you, this is exactly the information I was looking for.

Metro from Gare du Nord, does anyone know which line would be the best one to take? The metro stop Maubert-Mutualité” (line 10) is a few minutes from Atmospheres. Take the 4 St. Michel and switch to the 10, or walk from St. Michel?

Can anyone tell me more about the area around Hotel Atmospheres? If the area near the hotel has cafes, have a drink, and places where my daughter will feel comfortable at night if she is alone?

Is Hotel Atmospheres location down the hill from the Pantheon?

Thank to all for your help

You could plug the address of Hotel Atmospheres into Google maps, open Streetview, and "take a walk around" and see what you see around the hotel . . .

This is a good problem to have, both locations are great for sightseeing. I don't know either hotel but have stayed close to both.

Assuming the hotels themselves are equally good for your purposes, I'd give the edge to the Latin Quarter. Closer to more Metro and RER options, plus the wonderful Luxembourg Gardens (but don't miss the Place des Vosges). Probably more dining choices nearby, though there are plenty in both areas. Rue des Ecoles and Rue de Rivoli are both busy streets, but as I recall Ecoles is a little wider and has more trees. These are subtle distinctions, to be sure. That's why your "problem" is a good one. You really can't go wrong with either location.

With luggage, I'd recommend a taxi from Gare du Nord to either location. You'll probably pay a little more to get to the Latin Quarter. Or you could RER "B" to Chatelet (for Marais) or St-Michel (for LQ), in which case the walk or taxi will be longer to the Marais place than to the LQ place. You could shorten the walk and avoid a taxi by taking the Metro to Hotel de Ville (Marais) or Maubert Mutualite (LQ), with the shorter walk at the LQ location. But these logistical differences are minor, shouldn't really determine where you'll spend six nights.

Both neighborhoods have plenty of cafes, and I think you and your daughter will find both safe and comfortable. Both will have lots of people around at night. In fact, I'd suggest you try for a room up high and/or facing the back to keep street noise from disturbing your sleep.

Yes, the Atmospheres is downhill from the Pantheon (well worth seeing close up, but overrated inside imho).

Carolyn, JHK, Julie, Kim, Dick-Thank you for your help.

I've be stressing over which neighborhood for weeks. I do not think I can go wrong with either hotel. I'm leaning towards Atmospheres in the Latin Quarter. Most important is my daughter will feel comfortable if she is by herself, walking or using public transportation.

Thank you all.

Your daughter will be fine in either location. However, if she's coming back to Le Caron after around 11 PM by Metro, she might be worried that the area around St Paul metro is deserted. The shops and many cafes on rue de Rivoli shut down around this time, but that doesn't mean that it is unsafe.

The Hotel Atmospheres area is always lively, full of young people. She should feel right at home there, and will be safe as long as she takes normal, common-sense precautions. Don't carry phones or gadgets unless she's actually using them - and never on public transportation - hide the cards and money - then she won't have to worry about anything. It's a good idea for her to carry a driver's license and a copy of her passport. It can be very difficult to replace a passport, so keep it in the hotel safe.

I think that Metro connections will not be a problem in either hotel - from Hotel Atmosphere, she will probably need to make a connection to get to some places, but that only takes about 3 minutes. Le Caron is convenient to Ligne 1, which is the East/West axis of Paris - but she would have to make connections here, as well.

I've found the Marais to be more residential with upscale boutiques and the Latin Quarter more lively (students, lots of cafes). Which is better for transportation depends somewhat on what you are planning to see. St. Paul is on the metro Line 1 which goes to the top sights on the Right Bank. If that's where you're spending most of your time, stay there. If you want to explore more of the sights south of the Seine, then the Latin Quarter is a bit better.

Otherwise, flip a coin.
