Paris weather in February

Pros and cons of February weather in Paris? Been there many in both spring and fall but never in February. Is the weather a drawback to visiting in February?

Its February, so I dont know what kind of pros you would expect. You can find the historic averages for many weather related aspects on several websites, including this one: https://weatherspark.com/m/47913/2/Average-Weather-in-February-in-Paris-France

Basically, somewhat cold (I'm Canadian, so you may find it colder), with short days, a good chance of clouds, and a 1 in 4 chance of rain. Its fine as long as you concentrate on indoor activities. The one pro: fewer crowds.

I took my then 20 year old daughters to Paris mid January. There are less people. Its less appealing to eat outside though many places have plastic around the outdoor eating areas and there were heaters. We had very pleasant weather, sunny and probably 40s, but we live in Minnesota. They were periodically closing the towers of the Notre Dame because of chilly weather which we found laughable. Museums were still busy and we still had to book tickets in advance. I'd rather be in Paris in the winter than in July/August when its 100 degrees. Luxembourg gardens were still a bit interesting, but obviously nicer when there's flowers and foliage. Looking at photos, the girls were in lighter weight puffer coats, but unzipped.

You can expect short days and long darkness due to the city's geographic location.

Just a note that the heaters on covered terraces have since been outlawed.

Kim, that's kind of sad. I imagine they were a fire hazard?

I was in Paris this past February and it was surprisingly sunny and warm outside, to the point where we were in t-shirts in the mid-afternoon. We strolled through the Luxembourg Gardens, which were packed with people enjoying the sunshine. That being said, of course it could have been rainy and cool (and certainly was VERY rainy in Brittany during the same trip on a couple of days). Having also been to Paris in later November, I found the February weather preferable and would not consider it a drawback in any way. Bring layers, make sure to have a good rain jacket and an umbrella and you will be prepared for anything!

Jules, nope, it wasn't a fire hazard that outlawed the terrace heaters. It was an eco-hazard...the emisisons.

I was in Paris February 2-12 this year. I wore an all weather coat that is truly waterproof. Usually wore a merino/cashmere lightweight cardigan also, and I was quite comfortable. I had times of sunshine and a few times of light rain. Early sunset didn’t bother me, the city is well lit for the most part. I’m a thin blooded Texan and usually run colder than anyone else I know, but I prefer less tourist traffic so I like to do city intensive trips in the winter, and with the right layers I was fine. I’ve already booked airfare for January into February next year.
