Be prepared for searing temperatures in the City of Light next week. It’s also likely to be torrid in London where the forecast is 93 degrees for Monday.
The hottest I am seeing right now anticipated for the next week is 38°, or around 101F, on 2 July. That is very hot considering that most apartments do not have air conditioning. The important temps are the lows and the low for the morning of the 2nd is 26° which is very hot. It has been some time since Paris has been this hot.
I'm meeting friends in Paris the first week of August. I'm hoping it's not this warm then. The problem is that it also gets humid (the river) and the lack of AC.
Now Météo France shows 40c (104f) on July 1st. They also forecast 36c (96.8) Wednesday and rain Thursday and a drop to 25 (77). But forecasts often change. Not yet an exact science.
We were there in an apartment during the heat wave of 2003. I'd be building my day around indoor activities. Most museums have AC of sorts -- it isn't going to be icy anywhere in these temperatures, but cooler indoors. What my daughter and I did was get up early go get coffee and hang out in a park and then head to a museum around 11 calling my husband to let him know where to join us.
Shopping malls were not reliably air conditioned in. 2003 but I'd be surprised if they are not now.
Might be time to read Kim Stanley Robinson's Ministry for the Future to get a glimpse of the future it is now too late to avoid.
Its been well above normal in much of France, but at least Paris is set to see a break as the heat bubble is expected to move east. It reminds me of the heat wave in late June of 2019, when many all-time records were set. This time, it seems it is also more humid in many places, which make the apparent temperature feel even higher.
I don't know what kind of break 97°, 104°, and 101° (as the temperatures are projected for Paris Mon-Tues-Wed) is ! Sounds plenty hot to me.
Thank goodness for my sunhat this week in London. No need for the umbrella.
Never said that before!
I am at my UK morning service at Wokingham in Berkshire. Heat is very relative, but hot for the UK at least.
Someone has fainted from the heat (inside a Church, which should be cooler) and the service is paused for Ambulance attendance.
Schools in Lincolnshire have issued a pupil warning for Monday and Tuesday to be prepared.
Maybe other counties, but I happen to be on a school mailing list in Lincolnshire.
Over 30C forecast, but nowhere near as hot as even Paris.
It's almost 100 F in Bordeaux today, and it will be even hotter the next two days. Glad our AirBnB has air conditioning (climatisation). It was a good day to head to the beach in Arcachon.
Due to a heatwave, Paris is on red alert level level tomorrow, Tuesday , with temperatures expected to reach 41°C (106°F).
15 other departments will move up to the red alert level
We just returned from Paris, which was indeed very hot. Temps ranged between high-80s to mid-90s F. Mornings remained relatively cool (low 80s) until 2-3 pm when temperatures shot up and stayed constant until 10-11 pm. We got out early each day to enjoy the outdoors before the serious heat, then went back home in the afternoon or shopped in department stores.
We still enjoyed our time in Paris but the heat caused us to jettison several plans, including several dining reservations. Sitting in sweltering dining rooms depressed the appetite.
Our 7-year old beat the heat by playing in one of the fountains of the place des Vosges along with several other children.
Keep cool everyone , and stay hydrated!
If you want to use Fahrenheit, it will be 79 on July 1 and 73 on July 2 in Normandie.
I've seen worse.
The summit of the Eiffel Tower is closed to visitors today (they closed it as of 1 pm yesterday). 1st and 2nd floors are still open.
1,350 schools nationwide will be closed today, according to the Minister of Education.
France had its hottest ever in June nighttime temperature Sunday night into Monday.
At least in Paris, the heat is causing a severe air pollution épisode as well. The Prefect de Police has implemented véhicule restrictions accordingly. Only vehicles with Crit'Air stickers 1 or 2 will be allowed on the roads today.
According to yesterday’s news on France 2, France had 4 heatwaves from 1947 to 1957 but 20 from 2004 to 2014.
The little (metal) sightseeing boats at one of the gardens outside London had to be closed yesterday to avoid the risk of boat guides and tourists being burned.
Cooler temps are on the way.
The temperature did not drop below 27C overnight here in central Paris. Yesterday was manageable until lunchtime, but today will be brutal. Tomorrow's forecast is much less extreme than it previously was: let us hope it stays that way!
The number of schools closed today is being reported now as 1,896 instead of 1,350
It has been miserably hot and steamy here since I got here a few weeks ago, but the last few days take the cake.
I am loving seeing people on the streets walking or on bike with a huge fan they got from Darty.
It was indeed nasty on Tuesday, and not great until 3PM yesterday.
I made it through, but it looks like my fridge did not.
It was ridiculously hot in Bordeaux area on Tuesday. We were flirting with 40 degrees. And summer has just started!
To provide some balance to reports of the odd pocket of heat trapped in the center of the country and affecting Paris, it was so chilly this evening in Normandie I had to wear a jacket while grilling some food for dinner. It's strange how that pocket of heat around Paris persisted.
Based on mapping from Météo France, the heat has dissipated now.
