Paris Trip for Work: Activities to do after 5 pm.

My husband will be joining me for a teaching trip to Paris in July 2015 from Wednesday to Saturday (arriving on Tuesday night from Rome, leaving on Sunday). I am looking for things for us to do together in the evenings from 5 pm to late. This will be our second trip to Paris. We did not get to Versailles on the last trip, so we will do that on Saturday afternoon after my class ends at noon. I did find that the Lourve is open late on Wednesday and Friday.

Any night owls have some creative ideas? We love churches, art, food & wine.

Go to an evening concert in Sainte Chapelle.
Walk through Luxembourg Gardens at sunset.
Go to the Louvre when they are open in the evenings - beautiful!
Go to Berthillon ice cream on Isle St. Louis and eat it while you walk along the quay of the Seine.
Have dinner at the Grand Mosque of Paris - wonderful food and an interesting, beautiful place to dine.

Just a heads up: There will probably be long lines to get into Versailles on a Saturday in July. Note that none of the passes allow you to by-pass the security line, you only get to by-pass the ticket-buying line. The security line can be long on a weekend in the summer.

Kent: I was just reading about the long lines for Versailles and seriously considering a guided tour since that is the only day that we could go. What about the Saturday night dinner, music & fireworks?

Anita,

Your ideas are WONDERFUL! On our first trip to Paris in 2003 for our 10th anniversary, St. Chapelle was a favorite. I love hearing that it has something at night.

Thank you!!

One of the great things about Paris is that so many sights are open in the evenings. The Louvre on Wednesday and Friday, the Arc de Triomphe every evening, the Orsay and on Thursday. the Modern Art (Pompidou Center) Museum every evening except Tuesday. You can take a bike or segway evening tour (I really enjoyed the segway tour), cruise the Seine around sunset is best.

Also keep in mind it won't feel like "night" in July. The sun sets so late you can go traipsing around the city for hours.

Oddly Berthillon closes for what would seem to us to be the peak summer weeks. Check their website closer to time to find their closing times for 2015. But other places will be serving their ice cream.

Take a picnic (or order Pink Flamingo pizza, and they'll give you a balloon and deliver it where they find you sitting) along the Canal St Martin.

Jennifer, you specifically asked about the Saturday night events at Versailles. I haven't been to those.
Hopefully someone with personal experience will be able to help you on that one.

I agree with Chani. We visited Orsay on a Thursday evening and the Louvre and the Arc on Friday evening. We didn't encounter any lines - but we were decidedly during the off-peak. Also, Notre Dame is worth a visit, as is the Sacre Coeur. National Geographic had a wonderful photo of an ornate museum (which we did not get to).

Jennifer,
Although the days are longer in July, consider a nighttime cruise on the seine followed by a late dinner on Isle St. Louis. There are boats that leave from Pointe Neuf (sp?) on Ile de la Cite. TC

A dinner cruise perhaps.. Le Calife is well reviewed.. it actually prepares the food onboard( many of the larger boats just have it shipped on , yuck) .. and its reasonable price..

There are no lines for the gardens at
Versailles. Bypass the Chateau entrance and enter at the Queens Gate.
Visit the Chateau later in the day.
Be sure to check time of last entry.
