Paris Train RER/Metro Questions

Hello,
Will be traveling from CDG Terminal 2 to Paris on a Tues for 2 nites in June- want to take the RER B and then Metro- will be going back to CDG to fly to Milan on Thursday, returning the following Wed staying last night in Paris before flying back to US- since Im only there 2 nites at the start of my trip the weekly pass wont do. Any suggestions? Saw a “Paris Visite” pass online where you can choose number of days? Since Im making 2 trips to CDG on RER want the most cost effective way to do this. Thanks

Just buy normal tickets from the airport station into Paris. This will cost €10.30 (I think), and be valid to any RER or métro station in Paris city.
You can buy a ticket from any métro or RER station to the airport.
There are two RER stations at the airport. For terminal 2 it is "Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 2".

For travel within Paris, just buy a "carnet" of 10 "t+ tickets" and share them between you. These are each valid for one trip from any métro or RER station in Paris city to any métro or RER station in Paris city. Also valid for use on the bus, i ticket = 1 bus trip, no changing buses.
A carnet of 10 tickets costs €14.90, individual tickets cost €1.90. You can get them from the ticket machines at any métro station.

What's your final destination?

An RER pass from CDG into Paris is about 10€ (may be slightly higher now). You can use that to transfer to the metro, so that will be the total cost for your trip into town. It's the same price for a trip back out. You can then buy a "carnet" of to metro tickets, for about 14€ (which can be shared if you're traveling with someone). The other option is to do a 3-day Paris Visite pass, just make sure it covers the airport (zone 3, I think). This is about 27€.

The most cost-effective trip depends on how much you think you'll use the metro/bus system for your time in Paris. There are also some city busses that bring you into Paris for cheaper, but it's only helpful if it'd be close to your final destination. One is Gare de l'est and the other is Nation.

You can find all this info on their website, www.ratp.fr

If you are staying 2 nights, that´s 3 days and a 3 day Paris Visite pass is 53.75€. It´s very convenient and easy to use but you´ll probably spend a lot less money just purchasing individual tickets.

Lets think about this for a minute.
It is 10.30 EUR each way to/from CDG and a carnet of 10 t+ tickets is 14.90 EUR. That comes to 35.50 EUR.
A 3-day all-zone Paris Visite is 53.75 EUR.
A Navigo Decouverte is 22.80 EUR plus the 5 EUR set up fee. That comes to 27.80 EUR.
Bring a 1" by 1 1/4" passport type photo with you. It can be a selfie, or a photo copy of your passport picture reduced to the proper size. It will take about 15 to 30 minutes standing in line at the station at Paris CDG to get to an agent you can pay and assemble your pass. Then your off. Next time you are in Paris, bring it with you and just recharge it.

"Also valid for use on the bus, i ticket = 1 bus trip, no changing buses."

One can transfer between buses and between bus and tram ( but not bus and metro) but the time must be within 90 minutes. One may not backtrack along routes

Monsieur 20e: Sorry, I forgot.
They recently introduced a similar scheme in London. If you tap in with your Oyster Card on a bus twice in 60 minutes (I think), the second one is "free".

Hello Momo516-

I am travelling for 10 days- arriving in - leaving US on a Monday- arriving Paris Tues morning from CDG- staying in Paris until Thurs- going back to CDG and flying to Milan- (bout a 1 hour or so flight) staying in Italy until the following Wed- flying back to CDG and staying in Paris 1 night traveling back to CDG on Thurs evening for 7 pm flight back to US. Could stay at a airport hotel for last night but why when Paris is a short 45 min train ride away??😀😀 So my dilemma is do I get the plastic card for 5 euros and load it for a week and then reload when i get back?? Purchase individual tickets? Paris Visite Pass??

For me, I'd just get an RER ticket into Paris, roughly ten euro each, when I get there and buy a carnet of Metro tickets, under 15 euro for ten. In your two visits, you will use most of one carnet.

Two nights is really only one full day. Maybe you will have a morning or evening, but not enough to make a day pass pay for itself. I'm not sure any of the passes work well for really short stays. I've used the Paris Museum Pass and been happy with it, but I normally get a four day pass for a five day visit (and visit the sights not covered on the fifth day) or a two day pass for a three day visit.

Since you have 2 trips CDG-Paris at €10 each in each of the weeks, you're pretty much even with the weekly cost of the Navigo, which would also include all the Metro/bus rides you want to take. Card itself is good for years.

If you go to the official website, there is a Mobilis Pass which lets you go on the bus - and you can go backtracking on the bus - if not the Metro. Keep your ticket until you reach the street level.

Good for 90 minutes and the only catch is that you have to be home by midnight.
