This does not appear to be a tour but something selling the Paris Museum Pass which is rarely worth getting.

Right. It isn't a tour at all but a plug for the Paris Museum Pass. This pass is available through its own website, and one that provides FAR more information than what the 3rd-party Viator site is providing. Understand that this pass does NOT allow you to enter some of the attractions it covers without a prior reservation so the claim that you can "can explore without restrictions" isn't accurate for museums which require one, such as the Louvre. As well, no one skips a security-check queue even with pass.

This is the Viator page where it states that this offer is for a Paris Museum Pass; see the overview:
https://www.viator.com/tours/Paris/Paris-Multipass-for-Museums/d479-422159P8

This is the website for Paris Museum Pass:
https://www.parismuseumpass.fr/t-en

Reference the FAQ section for details about using the pass; click through ALL of the boxes even though titled in French such as "Advantages" 'cause the details will appear in English.

We enjoyed several tours with Fat Tire Tours when we were there including the Louvre and Eiffel Tower.

Thank you, I had no idea. I am completely new to this, I haven't been out of the country in a long time.

Can you recommend tours? For sacred sites, museums, eating, etc.?

Paris is not a town that needs tours. Get a descent guide book and plan your own visit. You can 'tour the town' easily with the metro.

We used Viator for the first and only time for a tour of the National Gallery in DC. We are art lovers and seasoned museum-goers. Right after the covid lockdown ended, the Nat. Gallery only offered a couple of in-house tours so we added this one for a new perspective. If you are an art lover and regular museum-goer, Viator may disappoint. It is an arm of TripAdvisor. We discovered during the tour that the guide cannot be "guiding" in a gallery room when there is an official (museum) guide there too. Also, she chose to do "dramatic" interpretations of the artists she discussed which was very off-putting.

If you do it on your own, get timed or skip the line tickets wherever possible

Viator is a middleman. And it’s not even a real time middleman

I’ve known several people who the night before an event or tour got a message from them going “too bad, So sad here’s a refund.” Well that doesn’t do a lot of good. If you were supposed to be touring the Louvre or Eiffel Tower and you don’t have a reservation because your tour guy was going to make it. Do yourself a favor and book direct with the tour operator and cut out the middleman.

Tours are fun but in my view, either bus or boat tours are best- or go for something unique like a helicopter tour (but expensive). Tiqets is best in Europe for tours are they are European and trusted by local tour groups. Viator is more mass market but also have many offers.

I highly recommend My Private Paris. It’s expensive, but we chose a private tour that was completely tailored to our interests. Marie was a wonderful tour guide, and it felt like we were touring with a friend rather than a guide. We’ve been to Paris a few times, and it’s doable without a tour, but we got so much more out of our visits when we toured with Marie. Our first trip we did a combination food tour/overview of the city. The second time we did a Louvre tour with her. I thought we could do the Louvre on our own, but I’m so glad we had Marie to share the history and highlights and guide us adeptly through the massive, crowded space.

By comparison, we did a large group tour of the Eiffel Tower, and that felt like a cattle call. I can’t remember the name of the company, but it was too many people, too hard to hear, and we felt we could easily have seen it in our own.

I highly recommend My Private Paris, or even a small group tour on the first day to help get your bearings and learn more about this magical city. Enjoy your trip!

I took a tour with Flavors of Paris and I recommend it to other people. If you're into food, their Original Flavours tour is really good. I took that one. I got to walk around the Saint Germain des Pres area, tried different jams, french cheeses with paired wine, and breakfast at a local cafe while gaining knowledge about the history of the area and everything we tried. They also have other tours for sweets, perfumes, and more.
