We have a free day travelling from Paris to Wengen, Switzerland in July 2015 - leaving in the morning and can't get into our place in Wengen until the next afternoon. Are there any 'don't miss' opportunities? We can drive or bus or train.
Paris to Wengen by hire car is a one way international trip. The surcharge for one-way international hire car drop off is €€€€! And there are no cars in Wengen, for the last leg from Lauterbrunnen you must take the train.
AFAIK there is no bus service on this route. Your only options are train or flight to Zürich and then train, which would take longer.
For an overnight en route, I would suggest Strasbourg, Basel (where I live, so I might be biased), Geneva or Bern.
Spend the night in Colmar. Take the train all the way.
Other possibilities that would entail long train time: Beaune, Lyon.
Thanks for your replies, Chris and Adam ...
I've been to Basel, Geneva, but I'll look up the others. I appreciate the information.
