Take the 13 metro to Montparnasse and get the RER C there to Versailles Rive Gauche Chateau assuming you are going to the chateau.

use ratp.fr. to map out trips in the ile de France. It requires on metro/RER ticket which is 2.50. Get a Navigo Easy card and put tickets on it.

Are staying at a hotel near St Lazare, or arriving at St Lazare from elsewhere?

Use www.ratp.fr to find the best route.

Again www.ratp.fr

That is the travel planner of the Paris Transit Authority. They run the trains and buses. Assume you want to go to Versailles Rive Gauche, one of the 3 train stations in Versailles and the one closest to the Chateau.

The www.ratp.fr website linked above gives the following directions (this is one of multiple ways/directions given):

  • Walk to Metro line 13 Saint-Lazare and take the metro going towards Châtillon Montrouge.
  • Go three stops and get off at Invalides station. The website suggest getting on the train at the back.
  • At Invalides station, walk towards the RER C. Take the RER train going towards Versailles Château Rive Gauche station.
  • After 11 stops on the RER C, get off at Versailles Château Rive Gauche station.
  • Exit the station and walk ~6 minutes towards the chateau.

I see from your other posts that it looks like you are arriving from Bayeux at Gare St Lazare.

The advantage of using the the ratp site yourself is that you know the exact date and time you are arriving. Perhaps there will be a closure on the route mentioned and you will have to take an alternate route, which the ratp site or app will show you.
