Paris to Versailles

Hi,
My family and I (4 of us) will be in Paris next month (july 12-17) and we're planning to go to Versailles one of those days. Do we need to buy train tickets in advance? I'm planning to buy tickets to Versailles in advance but still trying to decide which day to go... i'm thinking maybe we'll go Wednesday (July 16). Thanks for your help.

Tickets are 2.50€ and do not need to be purchased in advance. There are trains from Gare Montparnasse to Versailles as well as the RER C trains.

You just need to take an RER C train. No need for advance purchase for that; just for Versailles entry.

Please be aware that there will be construction works on the RER C line this summer.

Unless something changes, there will be no RER C train between Paris Austerlitz and Versailles Chateau Rive Gauche from July 15 to August 23.

With the plan closure of the RER C train to Versailles... what would be our options for getting there? is getting there by train still possible or do we need to figure something else out? thank u so much for your help.

What day do you plan to go to Versailles? And where will you be starting from?

Hi, we're staying at the Hyatt Paris Madeleine. The closest metro stations to our hotel are Saint- Augustin and Madeleine.

Of course everything will depend on the time your traveling and assuming no other events effect the various lines of transportation.

Simplest would be to walk from the Hyatt to Gare St. Lazare and take the L train to Versailles Rive Droite Station and then walk about 20 minutes to the Chateau. This would take a bit over an hour in total.

For getting around in Paris (and a lot of other cities) I like to use the Citymapper app. It will give you real time schedules for getting around by RER, metro, buses and local trains. It will even alert you that your stop is coming up and which entrance and exit to use at the station. It also gives walking directions.
