Paris to Sarlat by train

Any suggestions for a hotel near the train station for a night in Sarlat? We'll be there via train from Paris the end of this month.

Rick's France guidebook says, "The Sarlat train station keeps a lonely vigil (without a shop, café, or hotel in sight)." YOu can also see it on Google maps. Plan t walk 20 minutes downhill or take a taxi into town (about €7, you might have to call). The book recommends several hotel and guesthouse options in the center of town, as well as some further out (for drivers).

Yikes. I have an older version of the book and it does say a 20-minute walk but doesn't sound as bad as your version. Ignoring distance from gate, any hotel recommendations? We just want to go to the Dordogne for a day or two. Maybe another town?

In 2009 we stayed at Les Cordeliers -- http://www.hotelsarlat.com/ -- overlooking the square. It was lovely with a great breakfast. They picked us up at the train station. I believe we were in Room #6.

It's been a long time ago and things have changed, but for a description of our visit there, go to my Travels with Trout blog entry about Sarlat and the Dordogne Valley -- http://travelswithtrout.blogspot.com/2010/01/sarlat-dordogne-valley.html. Some of the links may not work, but you can click on the pictures to see them larger, and only them if you like.

We only spent 2 nights and 1 full day there, so we didn't get to see as much as we wanted, but we did get to see the main things on my bucket list and a bit more.

We also stayed at Les Cordeliers and enjoyed it very much. Chris and Amanda are British and easy to communicate with and very helpful!
