Hi! We will be visiting Paris in July. After spending a few days in the city. Our plan is to take the train to Caen and rent a car to explore Normandy. We would like to stop in Versailles.
Would it be better to rent a car closer to Paris, spend the day exploring Versailles and then drive to Normandy and not worry about the train schedules?
Thanks for any suggestions

Versailles is very close to Paris. It is a quick easy train ride that makes it a good day trip from Paris. However, you could take public transport to Versailles, spend the day and night there, and rent your car from there and begin your road trip in Normandy from Versailles the next morning. How many days do you plan to spend in Normandy? And do you mean only the DDay beaches area? Normandy is about 12,000 square miles and includes places like Rouen, Entretat, Honfleur, to name a few. If you are referring only to the beaches area, you could take a train there easily from Paris (to Caen) and get your car there. From Caen it is about a half-hour drive to Bayeux, a good place to stay and visit some of the DDay sights.
