Paris to Normandy Beaches then overnight in Trouville

We will be in Paris for just one week beginning the end of this month. We would like to spend one night in Trouville and are looking for the best way to take the train from Paris to Caen or Bayeux, then rent a car and visit Omaha or other Normandy beaches, then stay one night in Trouville before returning to Paris. Is this too much? What do you recommend?

I hope not. We are taking the train to and from Paris to Normandy on the same day in August. We have set up for a private family tour which will pick us up at the train, take us around and then drop us back to the train in time for late afternoon train. We are taking our grandson (17 years old) and told him he could sleep both coming and going on the train. It should be an interesting, looooong day.

As far as a train, you can get one to either Caen or Bayeux. But there are more direct trains to Caen, and the rental car agencies are more plentiful, and right outside of the station. Typically in Bayeux, you have to call them to pick you up. Bayeux is closer to Omaha, but only by 20 minutes or so. Can't comment on Trouville, as I haven't been there (yet). But it does sound like a very full, if doable day. IMHO, there is as much to see in Normandy as you have time. With one day you wouldn't really have the time to get to Utah Beach, which includes the American airborne activities (my favorite, and the best D-day museum in the area). But there are other sights near Omaha, including the American Cemetery, Pointe-du-Hoc, Arromanches, and a few good museums (Overlord Museum right near the American cemetery, and the Bayeux D-day museum). If you're driving from Caen to Bayeux, there is a wonderful, small, Canadian cemetery that is a small detour, but very beautiful and contemplative.
