Paris to Nice where to stop along the way on a train.

I am traveling with my family from Paris to Nice. We will not be driving but enjoying public transportation. We are 3 adults and one child. We are considering taking a train one way and flying back. Does anyone have suggestions on a city that would be interesting for us to stop for a day or two?

Thank you ahead of time

The historic city and the dining capital of France — Lyon— would make a great stop. Have a meal at a Bouchon, see the Roman ruins and the Museum Cinema et Miniature— there’s plenty to see in France’s second city. Lyon is 2 hours from Paris by TGV train and then it’s 5 hours further by TGV train to Nice.

Lyon is the obvious choice. Two tickets -- one to Lyon and one on to Nice. We did a side trip to Lyon during a Paris stay and really enjoyed the Roman ruins, the Traboules - spent much of a day exploring those -- and the food.

Thank you to both responses that really helps. We were not sure if Lyon was a place to stop but now I'm considering it again.

the train to nice doesnt stop there but that doesn't matter since it is not a local hop on and off sort of train -- you need an actual ticket to Lyon and then another to Nice -- it is on the way. The places it stops near Nice are all places you could do as day trips from Nice
