My daughter and I are hoping to travel to France - starting in Paris then a plane ride to Nice. We will do all the highlights in Ricks travel guide for Paris. Does anyone have suggestions for Nice? And are we travelling too far? Should we do another area in France closer given we only have 7 days?
Thanks in advance
Deborah
When you consider the time spent, packing, checking out, getting to the airport (2-3 hours early), and then getting to your new hotel, you'll eat up a lot of a day. With only a week, I'd stick closer to Paris.
Thanks for your advice! We don't want to only see Paris. Are there day trips out of the city that would be recommended?
Thanks in advance
You could also consider a few days in Lyon or Bordeaux instead.
There are many great day trips from Paris. Here is a good book to inspire you "One Hour from Paris" https://a.co/d/bBO8hfL
Deborah,
We did this by taking the train from Paris to Nice. I think it was around 3 hours. There are a lot of things to do in Nice, we once spent a week there, and did day trips from Nice.
But if you are just staying in France for 7 days, and really want Nice, I'd suggest: visit any of the several museums that interest you, maybe take a bus to Cimiez and visit Roman Ruins, walk up (or take elevator) to Castle Hill, mosey around the Old Town, day trip to: Antibes, Cannes, Eze, Monaco, St. Paul de Vence, San Remo (Italy) or any nearby town that excites you. There is also a wonderful seaside walk that begins I believe in Cap Ferrat. Did that many years ago, so I don't remember details.
For a day trip from Paris, there are many places to go. In addition to the RS guidebook, you might want to look at the book: An Hour From Paris, by Annabel Simms.
One time, we spent a week in Paris, and of course, never ran out of things to see and do. It's a nice dilemma to have.
I think Rouen is a very underrated visit. The half-timbered houses are fascinating, especially comparing those built before and after the Plague.

Paris to Nice by train is 5.5 to 6 hours, via hi-speed options.
Thanks for the correction, Allan. I must have been thinking of our Paris-Avignon train ride.
