Paris to Nice - end of June for 6 nights. Need itinerary suggestions?

Planning a trip with our daughters. ( 22 and 19) My initial thought was to rent a car and drive. We have friends that live in Divonne and we have tentatively planned on spending a night or 2 with them. Now I am second guessing that. They had suggested spending a night in Beaune and then driving to them. This looks doable. But, when i googled the drive from Divonne to Nice its 6+ hrs. I fear that is too much driving.

Any other suggestions? We are open to taking the train. We enjoy sight seeing. We have all spent time in Paris but not in other areas of France.

Take the train. Journeys are quick and but a blip out of your day. No expensive fuel and tolls. No stressful navigating and parking.

1hr 34min for Paris to Dijon (2N)
1hr 41min for Dijon to Lyon (2N)
1hr 44min for Lyon to Marseille (2N)
2hr 38min for Marseille to Nice

The trains are so good on this route that the only reason for a car is to explore the countryside beyond the range of mass transit. The trains are faster than driving for much of this route.

So you might rent a car for a few days to see sights in Provence or between Beaune and Lyon. Otherwise, take the train!
