We arrive in Paris on a Tuesday morning and head to Luxemborg and Belgium for a few days. Looking for the best connection to that area to spend one night to rest and prepare for the rest of our trip. I dont think we will have the energy after flying all night to make it to Ettleburck, Lux., our ultimate destination. Looking for a place to spend the night on the way with an easy train connection. Considering Nancy, France but that does have one train switch and limited times for the train. Luxemborg city is also an option. Looking for any ideas on how to get close to the area with minimum effort given having flown all night. Any suggestions welcome... Thank you
Metz or Lux City could work. To make things easier for you: take a cab from CDG to Gare de l'Est, and take the direct trains from Gare de l'Est to the city of your choice. You'll have more timing options. Allow ~4 hours between scheduled landing time and train departure time from Gare de l'Est.
if you can get to Luxembourg City station it is less than an additional half hour to Ettelbruck on a train with no changes and which only stops twice on the way.
I hadn't checked that last leg within Luxembourg : it is simpler than I thought.
Clearly, with what Nigel says, if you can make it on a train leaving from Gare de l'Est, you might as well press on to Ettelbruck. Luxembourg is not a particularly intimidating station.
If you land at, say, 10, you can reach Ettelbruck at about 5, depending on length of wait at Gare de l'Est.
