Paris to Giverny train schedule problem

Hi everyone! I had no problem buying train tickets on the SNCF site for Bordeaux to Paris but I am having trouble with Paris to Giverny for a day trip to Monet's gardens--the site does not show any tickets for the AM at all! Yet when I go to a site like Trainline it shows several options--and I have read that there are usually frequent trains to that area. Do they not show up until closer to our trip? We will be in France from May 13- 27th with the plan to go to Giverny on May 25th. Thanks!

I'm seeing a lot on the SNCF-Connect website. I did have to change the departure time to the day before at 11P to get the morning ones but I see direct trains at 8:12 and 10:12. An indirect one at 8 40 which takes 2 hours so you do not want that one.

And you are looking at the train to Vernon, right? Giverny does not have a train station so you go in to Vernon and there is a system of shuttle buses to Giverny.

When you select a date on the SNCF Connect calendar, make sure that the selected time is before your desired departure time. For example, if it's set to 2 PM, you won't see any train departures before 2 PM. Set it to 4 AM and you'll see all the first departures of the day.

I've found when I'm at home in the US the time calculation is odd so even if you put 10A as your departure time on the website the earliest trains that show are the ones for 7P/1900. Putting in 4A gets me the trains that leave at 2P. That is the correct time difference from Paris time to Pacific time zone but it is frustrating.

Then click on "previous trains" at the top of the page to see earlier departures. As was said, the SNCF site adjusts the time from where you are searching from. It is just a quirky thing in the software they are using.

Thanks so much everyone--that worked! I now have tickets to Vernon for 8:12 AM and 2:54 to return.

Sam. the previous trains tab is not showing on my SNCF-Connect site today and last time I looked. Sometimes it does, perhaps when I am looking at prices and not just the time table.

And debjsd....woohoo! I'm glad you are going. I'm looking at taking that 812 train out myself at the end of this month.

Another question: We are going on a Monday--it looks like a lot of restaurants are closed that day. any recommendations?

I see it all the time. For instance, I just did Paris St Lazare to Venon - Giverney for 6 am and the list of available trains began at 12:40 pm. Right above that is a tab "Display previous journeys". Click on that and you see the 8:12 am train.

Yes, click on "see prices".

I've often eaten at Les Nympheas which is right near the main entrance to the house/gardens. It looks like it's open every day and does not take reservations.

By the way...I'm assuming you are buying a timed entry to Monet's home as well. The timed entry entrance is a little tricky to find. It's not at the main entrance. Follow the signs for GROUP entrance and that gets you in very close to the Water Garden and Japanese bridge. After you come by the ticket checker and get on to the main path. Go to the right first to the water garden, then come back to this spot and go up to the house and garden. To get to the water garden you'll go thru a little tunnel under the road.

Here is a googlemap view of the Group and Prepaid ticket entrance:

The main entrance is across the street and to the left from Les Nympheas where it says La Poste. That is the exit thru the gift shop, hahaha. You can see the glass roof of the gift shop which was Monet's atelier.

Good grief...this is way more information than you probably wanted, hahaha!

@Sam - on my MAC I do not have that display. I do understand what you are saying because I've seen it before but today, on that website on my Mac, not there.
