Paris to Giverny by train

Hi All,

My wife and I will be in Paris from May 18-25 and would like to make it out to Giverny. I was looking at rail tickets online (https://oui.sncf) and it seemed like many of the options are full.

Do the trains actually fill up or can we still walk up and buy a ticket at the station for a early morning train?

Thanks!!

Mark

Sam, I saw that there was a strike on two days of the week that we are there so I was looking at tickets for the other days. Many either say no seats remaining or later that week they are not bookable.

Scroll down on that and it explains that:

Your train may be closed for reservation:
Some trains may be closed for reservation during the strike period. They are displayed as "train full" on our website and application.
If their circulation is confirmed and there are still seats available, the reservation may be offered between 48h and 24 hours before departure.

So you just have to check a day or two beforehand to see which trains will operate that day.

Hello all,
I will be in Paris May 21st - May 25th. I bought a ticket to Giverny for for the 23rd. Then there was this rail strike. So I bought a ticket for the 22nd.- which is a non rail strike day. So, I thought I could just go to the train station and buy my ticket there- no problem.
So, now I have to buy my ticket in advance and I may not even get to Giverny?????!!!
I will be terribly disappointed if I go all the way to Paris and can't see Monet's gardens!!!!
Please help!

Thanks!!!

CTB0722, you might want to wait and buy an admission ticket after you have secured your train tickets. I found admission tickets available on line the night before (this was in April).

Alas, I already bought my entrance ticket to Monet's Gardens.
It's so frustrating as now train times are limited. The only days I can get to Giverny (due to rail strick) are the 21st (this is my arrival to Paris day) and 22nd. I'm leaving on the 25th. On the 22nd the only available train back to Paris from Giverny arrives at 17.40 and I have a ticket to Notre Dame Cathedral organ recital at 20:30! Ugh!

Right now, you don't actually know whether or not the trains will run. You have to take a look 48 to 24 hours in advance and you will see which ones are running that day. The site says that 300 trains a day will operate even on strike days. Its just a matter of which ones.
