Paris to/from Burgundy region for four nights - base in Beaune

We're flying into Paris CDG November 2015, arriving at 6:30 AM, and would like to head directly to Beaune from the airport via train. It looks like we'll need to go through Lyon and transfer to Beaune - I hate going past our destination and hopping on another train to get where we're going, but to do it straight from CDG I'm not seeing any other options. Any suggestions or experience with this trip? We'll be flying out of CDG as well, so advice on the train trip back into Paris is also welcome (spending two nights in Paris at the end of our stay).

Certainly looking for suggestions on what to do, where to stay, where to EAT in the Burgundy region as well for our four night stay - we'd like to stay at a home base in Beaune, would prefer to not rent a car if possible, and are interested in doing winery tours, taking in one splurge Michelin star meal, and generally relaxing and enjoying the area.

Unless you are really adverse to renting a car, that's what I would recommend--it will add so much more to your whole experience in the region--so many beautiful little towns and scenery to explore off the beaten path outside of Beaune. My husband and I took our first trip to France last year and split out time--4 days in Paris and then rented car to head to Burgundy (Bourgogne to the French) region for 4 days.. This second half of our trip was equally as exciting as Paris. Once you're out of Paris the driving is really quite easy and with a good GPS. you won't have any probem.

You can get there by taking the RER B to Gare du Nord, switch to the RER A to Gare de Lyon, then take the TGV to Lyon and change to a local train to Beaune. To get this routing, just specify travel from Gare de Lyon to Beaune on the SNCF site. You will travel on your own with a 10 euro RATP ticket from CDG to Gare de Lyon.

In Beaune try Le Conty for lunch and La Grilladine for dinner. Really good food at both.

Thank you for the suggestions! We're not entirely opposed to renting a car and may pursue that just to give ourselves more options.

And Ben, certainly no offense to Lyon - just not on our agenda for this particular trip!

Rick covers the Beaune/Dijon area pretty thoroughly. Has lots of suggested wine tour driving itineraries, the countryside is beautiful. Also try the Patriarche wine cellars underneath Beaune. The hospice is worth the visit, and just walking around the small city center is enjoyable. There are TONS of wine bars and wine stores if you need/want some refreshment. The folks at the TI are friendly and helpful. Note that there's a ring road around the city and that's how you will find parking; it can be tricky but Rick has some suggestions.

For a splurge, drive to the Abbaye de la Bussiere for a Michelin dining experience in a converted abbey that is just amazing. Good place to stay too if you can spring for it.
