We are going book train fares for travel from Paris to Colmar in late September. Seems to be a couple of options (1) Gare de l'Est to Strasbourg and then Colmar or (2) Gare de Lyon to Mullhouse and then Colmar. Are there any significant reasons to choose one option over the other? Thanks in advance.

I guess the most obvious elements to consider are
1) the length of time both routings take to get you to Colmar
2) which train station is more convenient for your Paris lodging
3) any notable variation in price for the tickets
and a third element to consider is, looking at the schedule, does one seem to offer more options (i.e. if you miss a train, for example your connection, are there lots of other options to get you onward to Colmar) -- I am guessing that both Mulhouse and Strasbourg have very frequent trips to Colmar, so that probably isn't a problem either way.

From Paris Est you can get a direct TGV 3 times a day, 7:20, 14:55, and 18:55. No need to worry about missing connections.

Thanks Kim & Sam, the direct trains don't fit our schedule and the Gare de Lyon is just a few minutes from our hotel so I've gone with the Mullhouse option. Cheers.

I'm thinking of visiting Colmar for the Christmas markets in 2019. Do you have a hotel booked in Colmar? That you would recommend? I know I'm planning way in advance but I hear this time of year is very popular. I want to secure a room reservation as soon as the hotels are available to book.
