Paris to Colmar and Baden Baden to Paris, Pit Stop

Good day everyone,

I will be driving to Colmar to base myself to explore the Alsace region. Finishing up with a spa day in Baden Baden.

Any recommendations on an activity or place to visit on my way there to break up the drive.

I was thinking Nancy going to Colmar. Metz returning to Paris.

Thanks,

Nate

Those are good choices. You can consider Reims and Verdun, too.
Any reason you're not taking the train to Strasbourg or Colmar? If you are alone, it is not only faster but also cheaper than driving from Paris.

With 4 people, the car makes more sense!
Verdun with small children is a bit bleak, I would cross it off the list.

Nate,
Depending on the age of the children, Verdun isn't out of the question. Our two were 8 and 10 1/2 when we went. They were perceptive enough to understand a bit about WWI and the trenches. The fact that nature was allowed to retake the land was a good lesson in humility and hope, which they understood better than one might expect. Done well, a visit to Verdun could be a lesson in the futility of war, how the world can be repaired in spite of war, and hope for the future. It depends on how they are prepared for it, and doesn't have to be a long lecture, just a brief history of the conflict.

Hi Judy.

My kids are 9 and 10 years. Me being a veteran of Afghanistan , and having family that served in WWI and WWll, they have understanding of remembrance. We visited Flanders’s, Vimy, D Day landings last year.

Thank you very much for the advice.

You can also visit St. Avoid for the American Lorraine Cemetery. It has the largest number of graves from WWII with over 10,000 graves. I believe less than thirty miles from Metz. Very impressive.
