Paris to Collioure, train or plane?

I'm going to be in Paris in Sept, and I'm planning a jaunt down to Collioure for several days. (sentimental reasons). I've been there before, but this time I'm going it alone. Any advice, train or plane, would be appreciated.

The modes of transport when you were there before still exist and they maybe better.
Take the train or fly to Perpignan and take a train.

The fastest train connections take 6 hours, departing Paris on a fast, reserved train and then switching to a regional train at varying locations. Most September dates are not bookable yet, but probably will be about 90 days ahead of your travel date. See www.voyages-sncf.com and pay with PayPal, if offered, to avoid credit card approval issues. Other agents like RailEurope and www.Trainline.eu sell most of the same deals.

Try looking at rome2rio.com. Punch in Paris and Collioure and see what all your options are. Personally I would take the TGV - only about 6.5 hours....flying will take about 4.5 + getting to the airport an hour early and all that jazz. Flying will probably be a lot cheaper but, to me, the train is less stressful and much more enjoyable. You get to see a little of the countryside too. That's worth paying a little extra money to me.

Yes, I'd be happy with that train ride, with only one connection from city center to city center. (I probably wouldn't switch to plane unless trains took 8 hours and/or more connections.)

Another advantage with trains, is you do not have the baggage issues that most low cost airlines make passengers deal with.

With the fairly small net difference in total travel time, the train with the benefit of scenery and no baggage hassle, would make me choose the train, assuming no significant cost difference.

If you find you have extra time in Collioure, there's direct bus service to Elne and Perpignan (and a few other towns) for 1 euro each way. Ten departures per day (except only one on Sunday). This is in addition to the train service that you already know about.

Thank you all. I'm going to train (TGV)it to Perpignan, and then catch the local to Collioure. Sounds like a plan. Thanks for the bus info. Is there a bus station? Does it leave from the train station?

I think you have received some sound advice here. I would just add that if you accommodation is not near the station, it is better to reserve a taxi in advance as they are rarely waiting at the station. Taxis within Collioure cost around 9-12 Euros for most destinations within the town itself.
