Paris this Friday for a 9 hour layover

My daughter and I would love to leave the airport for just a few hours of shopping and lunch somewhere, just want to get pictures outside the famous places. Our luggage will be continuing on to Venice.
How do I get from the CDG airport to the city and back? Most affordable option please! I will only spend about 3 hours in the city and want about 2 -3 hours coming back to get thru security!
Thank you
Eva

Get the RER (blue line) to St Michel and then follow this walking route, passing many famous Paris landmarks.

St Michel >> Notre Dame >> Pont Neuf >> Pyramid du Louvre >> Tuileries Gardens >> Place Vendome >> Opera >> Madeleine >> Place de la Concorde >> Champs Elysees (only to Place Clemenceau) >> Grand+Petit Palais>> Pont Alexandre III >> Invalides

From Invalides you can hop on the RER (yellow line) back to St Michel to change for CDG.

Unfortunately the RER B continues to be affected by the strike actions, so right now there are only one-third of the trains running that there normally are, making it much more of a hassle to get in and out of the city that way (and none of the trains go any further than Gare du Nord, so you'll have to change at Gare du Nord for a train on to St Michel).

The strike might be over by Friday, but it might not. Not to say that you can't make it into town, but I would recommend Roissybus or something else rather than the RER, which continues to be a huge pain in the neck.

So while David's and Dave's advice is good during normal times, unfortunately the RER B is NOT the cheapest/fastest way into the city while the strike continues.
