Hello, We have an opportunity for a home exchange near the Convention Metro in Paris. This is our fourth visit to Paris. We have never been to this part of the city. I know the 15th is not “centrally located” which is fine with us. The exchange parter did provide some basic information about the neighborhood. I am curious to hear if anyone on this forum is familiar with this neighborhood and could offer your opinion on whether this is a good place to stay? Thank you!
I can’t tell you much about staying in the area. I’ve stayed in the 15th a few time but not close to Convention metro stop. I’ve stayed about 20 minutes away (walking) near Charles Michels stop. The 15th reminds me of nice parts of Queens (NYC) — in the city and very “normal” but not close to major sites. I used to stay there when I needed space for my children and nieces and nephews. We spent a decent amount of time on the metro but the trade off was worth it for the space. You may want to check out the very highly regarded Le Cambodge restaurant, which is quite close to Convention station.
I think it would be a very good place to stay. The Sunday Convention market is one of the best in the city.
I had friends who lived there; good food shopping.
We've stayed in the area a number of times. Good local shopping and restaurants, quiet (as long as youre not on Convention or Vaugirard) and actually quite convenient. Metro line 12 goes to (or very near) most of the main tourist sites
Grenelle is not a bad area at all. The Beagrenelle shopping center is great. Parts of it may not be as attractive is say the 16e, but you could certainly do worse.
We've stayed in the 15th as well several times and actually enjoyed the neighborhood feel it has. There are lots of restaurants, great local shopping, and a "local" vibe. Sounds like a cool idea!
We spent most of the fall staying in an apartment not far from Convention (actually closer to metro line 8, but similar area), and have stayed near there on previous visits as well. I love this area because to me it is Paris how ordinary people live it: lots of little stores, both for food and other specialties, cafés that serve the neighborhood, not tourists, plenty of restaurants. Several of my university colleagues/friends live in that area. I don't think you'd find it inconvenient from the point of view of transport, although the only major "sight" within walking distance is the Eiffel Tower, which you've probably visited already.
The area around Convention is cute, not touristy, and still relatively well-connected to the rest of the city. You will have to be happy with 30 min-plus "commutes" to some highlights, but for a fourth visit, I think it can work.
Thank you, all!
