Paris safety and transport at night

Hello ! Traveling with two tweens to Paris in the summer. Is it generally safe to walk around at night (10pm or Later) around the Eiffel Tower area ( still waiting to buy tickets as the online tickets are sold out, only the last option was available) and the Lourve (hoping to go late per Rick Steves’ suggestion).
1. Is Paris safe to walk around late at night with kids - would love to take a stroll but wanted to ask about safety. I see so many posts about pickpockets.
2. What’s the best way to travel at night to the hotel in 9th arr. Is metro ok or should we uber or get a taxi ?
3. To take a taxi from random places, is the best way to use the G7 app? Or is there a different way and is the taxi fare pre determined like in uber?

It is a lot of questions- thank you!! Merci!!!

It's perfectly safe to walk around anywhere in central Paris at 10pm, in fact there will be lots of people out an about at that hour, especially in the summertime. Same goes for the Métro. It will be full of people at that hour and perfectly safe.

Pickpockets do not pose a threat to your personal safety. In fact, you'll never know you were a target until you go to look for your wallet or phone. So make sure those are stashed securely away on your person. Same for the teens. They shouldn't put their phones down on a café table, for example.

I use the Métro extensively when in Paris, but on the odd occasion I need a taxi I use the G7 app on my phone. In March, I was at dinner and it started to rain. Line 9 of the Métro was closed for works. I requested a taxi on the app and he was there within minutes. If you're departing from Paris, and are going to take a taxi to the airport, make sure to request one 2 days prior to leaving. There is a €7 reservation fee, but that's little enough for the peace of mind of knowing your ride will be there.

Taxis to and from both Paris airports have a flat fee. All other rides within the city are on the meter.

I am usually alone in Paris. No problem walking or using metro and buses in central Paris in the evening. 11pm is not late in Paris. There will be lots of people about. Just use your street smarts. Walk in well lit areas. Use an app like Citymapper to navigate the metro/bus system.

Where in the 9th is your hotel located?

Paris Uber is very easy - just like the US.

My teen daughter and I (40-something female) went to see Eiffel Tower at night from the Trocadero vantage point, using the Metro to get there and back. Didn’t feel any more unsafe than any major city like New York. Lots of people out and about, just keep an eye on your phone/bags.

Eiffel Tower tickets for this summer are not sold out. Tickets are issued in waves, the last being 7 days before any visit date. Keep trying:

I have no personal restriction for métro use. I use it early in the day until late at night. I also use the bus, but it can be much slower.

For travel late at night across town, I sometimes contact Bolt/FreeNow/Uber, in that preferential order.

We often go from one end of town to the other after dinner with friends or after the opera and so are on public transport and walking late at night. Never had any issues. The metro is full till it closes.

Amongst all the folks out and about in the late evening will be children of different ages as well.

Safe Travels, 4 months before I arrive in Paris. :)
