Paris's official taxi from Gare du Nord station?

Hi,
We are planning to take a taxi from Gare du Nord train station to near Pyramides metro stop, which is very close to our hotel in the Opera district.
Is there a specific taxi company (that is safe) we should look for? This is our first time there and do not speak French :(
Google Map tells me it is ~8 minute drive to our hotel. Any estimate on the cost of our taxi ride for 2 people with 2 bags?

Thanks,
Jungnam

When you get off your train at Gare du Nord follow the signs to the official taxi rank. It is off to the right side as you come to the head of the tracks. Go there and get in line with everyone else. The taxi manager at the head of the line will generally point you to a taxi when it's your turn. They load 3 or 4 at a time. Do not go with someone in the station who asks if you need a taxi.

Have the name and address of your hotel typed out so you can just hand it to the driver. I tape mine to a 3x5 card. Or are you not taking the taxi to your hotel?

There is no negotiation on the price but they will start the meter.

Walk to the front of the train and turn right at the end of the platform. Exit through Sortie 7. Bam! There is the official taxi line. Do not go out to front. There may be taxis out there but if you ask for a taxi there, the driver knows you are in the wrong place and that may be the cue to take you for a ride financially speaking. This trip could cost anywhere from 12€ to 25€ depending on traffic conditions. If a driver starts negotiating the price, he or she is trying to rip you off. For fare estimates you can try using the TaxiG7 fare estimator: https://www.g7.fr/en/book-taxi

Thank you very much for your great additional information, JHK.
Pam, yes, we will be going to the hotel from the train station.
Thank you all :)

I agree with the Sortie 7. Do not go out the front where the "sharks" will get you.
It would be wise to print the address and Postal Code where you are going.
No luggage fees.

Like Pam said, let the taxi manager put you into a taxi. There was a guy standing 10 feet beyond the taxi manager acting like he was helping the manager who began motioning us up. We didn't think he was legit as he wasn't acknowledged by the taxi manager so we stayed put until our taxi pulled up right in front of the manager.

Thank you all for great info!!
I've gotten an index card ready with our hotel address taped on it :)
And we will watch out for "fake" taxi managers.
Thanks!!

The taxi rank is configured so that as you approach the front of the line you are walking (shuffling) parallel to the taxis as they drive up to the head of the line. You can easily see the line of taxis stretching into the distance and you can watch who the manager is and how people are loading.

Last year one of the times I went thru there, there were 2 men one at the head of the line and one at the entry point to the line who was moving the people who needed a larger cab or who were disabled to a separate waiting area. As we were standing in line I noticed a backpack sitting on the top of the glass roof so I got the first guy's attention and pointed up. He looked up, grinned and made an eating motion then pointed to himself. We all got a laugh and I was glad it wasn't an unattended bag!

Well, this looks like a good picture on google satellite view. The picture is actually labeled "Avis location de voiture* but that is actually the taxi rank. The diagonal spaces are where the taxis pull up to load. You'll be lined up under the light gray awning, line zigzagging back and forth.

On the typed address you've got, make sure you've added the 750XX number as that tells the cab driver the arrondissement location.

You should go to where the agents are directing "OFFICIAL TAXIS" - then there won't be any wondering.
