Reminds me of the French permitting a company that offers costly wifi labeling itself 'Free Wifi' which confuses newbies to Paris consistently.

There are all sorts of trains: TGVs, TERs, Thalys, even the metro -- so for one line clearly designated RER to now use a generic name can't be anything but confusing to many. I am waiting for Galleries Lafayette to change their name to 'Store.' or 'Magazin'.

From the link:

Commuters in Paris will soon never have to catch another "RER" train again in their lives, with transport chiefs to get rid of the name, that has become synonymous with delays, breakdowns and strikes.

Are the French learning American ways? When service is abysmal, instead of improving the service, do one of 2 things: (1) change the name; (2) have a big PR campaign to try to convince consumers that the service is great.
