Hi! Wondering if anyone has any recent experience on renting an apartment in Paris. I used VRBO several years ago but as I understand it rental laws have changed a lot in Paris in recent years. I know that Rick lists a couple of agencies but I was wondering if folks had any recent recommendations? Many thanks!
I have rented from Vacation In Paris which is an American company with great phone service! Try asking for Jan.

Try ApartmentsduLouvre.com which are serviced apartments and all are legal. They get very good reviews and won't cancel on you at the last moment.
The two companies I have used are Apartments du Louvre, https://www.apartmentsdulouvre.com. They have units in two buildings with a small elevator in each and it is a French family business, they don't fall under the guidelines of AirBnB or VRBO. The other is Cobblestone Paris, https://www.cobblestoneparis.com, mentioned in RS books. The business is ran by an American couple.
There are many legal apartment options in Paris, there are also a rather large number of illegal apartments still on the market. The only way to be sure that any given apartment is legal, would be to confirm that it is one of the few commercial apartments available short term. There are only a few hundred of these in Paris, and I know of no way to authoritatively confirm their status.
Otherwise, there are apartments offered legally by their owner/occupants, most of these are offered on standard online platforms such as VRBO, Airbnb, Le Bon Coin, Arbitel, or some other online platform. These are limited to 120 days of rental occupancy per year (likely soon to be 90 days/year). Short term rentals can really be a minefield to navigate, all of the concerns can be avoided by using hotels or apartment hotels such as Adagio or Citadine.
I haven't stayed here yet, but am using Paris Vacation Apartments (PVA) for my February trip.

I was concerned about legality, so actually checked and found my particular apartment listed on the Paris registry.

From what I understand, not all apartments will be on the registry, just the ones that are full time rentals. Other apartments can have a registration number, but can only legally rent for xx days per year. Anyways, I'm no expert (just a tourist trying to do my due diligence), so please correct me where I've got this wrong.
I really appreciate the help!
I have rented several times from both of these agencies.
Vacation in Paris - based in NJ but they do have a local 'Manager" Lots of variety and I have always had a good experience.
Guest Apartment Services - Based in Paris with an office. Almost all apartments are on the Isle de la Cite (which is where the office is) They have much more "service" than Vacation in Paris (cleaning mid week, concierge type services to help with reservations etc..)
Personally I do not pay ANY attention to the "registration code" There is no impact to the renter if the apartment is illegal except that if the authorities decide it's illegal it will be taken off the market. That's why I use a reputable company who will make things right. If perhaps there was a way for me to tell if the code was legit AND that we could confirm they owner had not exceeded the allowed rental days I'd care but... 75123456789101 tells me the owner knew how to count up to 13 digits only IMHO.
Guest Apartments is indeed an excellent agency to rent from. You should be aware though, that they have a 7 night minimum on all their apartments and some have a 30-day minimum requiring a mobility lease.
