paris public transportation advice

hello all,
i will be arriving in paris (cdg) in the morning on a thursday in early may. will be spending 13 full days on the ground before moving on to poiters. main goal is to visit the art museums and churches/cathedrals in the city. also, day trips to chartres, rouen, amiens, and reims. will be staying in the montmartre area. i am debating which travel pass to get, navigo or visite for paris. read the official description and read some posts here and on redit etc. seems like there are pros and cons to both. which one makes more sense in my case? for the day trips i will use sncf.
thanks!

The Visite is not a very good deal and the Navigo Decouverte is an outstanding bargain. Since it is strictly a Monday to Sunday deal, you just need a Navgo Easy to buy individual tickets before and and after the ND validity period.

The Navigo Decouverte weekly pass evens out with a couple of trips a day and it can be used on either metro/RER or buses/trams. The Easy is often the best choice; you just buy as many tickets as you need. If you use buses and trains you need to get both types of ticket.

The Visite is virtually never a good deal and definitely not in your case. Montmartre is not central so having the pass is probably best. But if you don't want to bother with the photo and all, the Easy is a good product. And the difference between the two is going to be nickel dime. Since you are doing day trips out of the ile de France the Easy might be your best bet as the ND is not useful for traveling outside this region. With the easy you just pay for the trips you take.

For your complete (monday to sunday) week France, a ND with a Navigo week fare can be a good idea if you think you will travel a lot in Paris region. You can travel without counting.

Someone mentioned that for the Navigo pass you need a photo. Any passport size photo will do. You just stick it on the part of the Navigo where it has some adhesive (you have to peel off the protective coat first). So pretty easy. We have even used a photo copy of our driver's license photo. Peter

The photo is smaller than the standard size passport photo. 25mm by 30mm (1" by 1 1/4").
