Paris/Provence/Nice

Is it a crazy idea to go anywhere near Paris/Provence and Nice this coming summer (last week in June/first week in July) because of the Olympics? I need some inside information on how it will be. I've read some articles that events are spread out throughout tourist attractions in Paris (Eiffel Tower, Seine, etc, and even in Marseilles. As of right now, it looks like prices are pretty high in all of those three places, but I don't know if that is just summer in Southern France. What are people's thoughts on this? I will be coming from the NYC area and have never been to any of those places, but we have really wanted to go!

Can anyone recommend another area in Europe that has that same type of feeling of small towns and beautiful countryside with a mix of country and Sea? Or should I chance it and stick with my original plan?

The Olympics start July 26th.

The major change for those staying June/early July will be costs and hotel availability.

If you are seeing high prices for the end of June and especially the first part of July, it is because it is the peak of Lavender season in western Provence and prices in general have escalated post-pandemic. There may be early arrivals for the Olympics as well, for those that want to tour the country before heading to to the various Games locations.

There are many places with beautiful countrysides and small towns throughout.... Tuscany (although the seaside towns are not as charming as the Amalfi or the Italian Riviera -- though for the later people tend to fly into Nice). Or perhaps the mountain villages or Andalusia or the Basque Region?
