Anybody purchase this lately? Worth it? Thanks.
Do you mean this Paris Museum Pass: http://en.parismuseumpass.com? If you do, then, yes, it's a very good deal. I buy one each time I go to Paris. It gets you into dozens and dozens of well known and lesser known museums.
john-what Valerie said. There are several similar sounding "passes", and most are a bunch of discount coupons for stuff you probably didn't wish to do anyway. The Paris Museum Pass, at the link above, is the "real" one that most people want-and can actually use. Don't activate it until your first use. You can buy one at many locations where they are accepted, and choosing a less busy site when buying is a good idea to avoid a wait.
Short answer: NO.
edit- Assume you are referring to this product:http://www.parispass.com/
As Dave and Valerie said, the Museum Pass is a good value if you have the energy to use it for two or more consecutive days of museums or other covered sightseeing. This can take some planning, as some of the big museums are closed certain days and open certain evenings. Besides potentially saving you money on individual admissions, it saves you time by avoiding ticket-buying lines (but you may still have to wait in security lines). It also makes it easier to pop into museums just to see one or two things, or to visit big ones more than once, or to make use of their bathrooms if that's your immediate priority.
The other "Paris Pass" is widely panned on this board. I've never used it and from what I've read here I wouldn't.
There is a Paris Pass, a Paris Visite Pass, and a Paris Museum Pass. They are three different things, and yes it is confusing.
The Paris Museum Pass is often a good deal, but as always, you have to do the math. The other two are not good deals for most visitors (overpriced for what you will actually need and can see/use as a visitor).
Edit: Cross posting with Dick - as you see, we are saying the same thing.
As stated above. Which ever pass you think you want, do the math. The Paris museum pass may let you in the museum faster than if you needed to buy a ticket and then go through the security line. The last time I was in Paris in 2011, I had the museum pass and waited only ten minutes to get into the Louvre, while the line to buy tickets was a about an hour long and then they had to go through the security line. I just checked the price for a two day museum pass and it is 42 Euroand four day is 56 Euro. Just a reminder, The Paris museum pass does not cover the Eiffel Tower tour.
Paris pass - no
Paris Museum Pass - usually yes
The Paris Museum Pass also gives you the freedom to just pop in for a while to museums that you might not otherwise want to spend the money on. This is a big benefit because otherwise one might be tempted to focus on only the major museums, even on repeated visits to Paris. Last time we went to the Medieval museum, whatever it's called, and the city museum. Also the le'Orangerie Museum. We had not been to any of these on three previous trips that included Paris.
The 'Paris Pass' is not a pass if by pass, you mean a single card that does a bunch of stuff. It is an ordinary Paris Visite transport pass (rarely worth getting) and a Paris Museum Pass (sometimes worth getting ) and a few coupons -- they put it in an envelope and add a hefty fee. If you want a museum pass just get one at the first museum you visit. (don't start with the Orsay where the pass let's you skip a long line)
The Paris pass has three things--the museum pass, the paris pass, and the metro. The guy who sold us them said that you can start them on different days. Is that true? It seems to me that the metro passes (1-day or 1 & 5-day tickets) would work independently, but are the other two linked? That is, can we use the museum pass starting on Monday, then on Thursday start the other pass? I cannot find anywhere confirmation of what the guy at the ParisPass pickup store told us.
Many thanks.
You activate the Museum Pass on the first day you use it - you must enter the date on the pass for it to be valid.
The rules state that if you purchased a 3-day Paris Pass, you only have 2 consecutive days to use the Museum Pass.
The Metro pass must be validated in the Metro station turnstyles or in the machine on the bus each time you use it. This is good for unlimited travel from the day you first use it.
I assume you mean "the Paris Attractions Pass"? This is valid the first day you use it, just enter the date.
You should read the rules on the official website to be certain that what the person who sold you the passes said was correct. https://www.parispass.com/how-it-works/
