Paris Paper Metro Tickets

Are single paper tickets still available for purchase in the machines in Paris or will we have to get the Navigo Easy card? We (5 of us) are only in town overnight and will use the metro 3-4 times max. I was thinking getting a carnet of paper tickets would be the cheapest way to go, but since they are being phased out, I'm not sure they will be available. Looking to purchase at gare du nord station next week. Thank you!

I was in Paris 6/8 to 6/14 and can confirm that you can still buy individual paper tickets, although I could not find carnets at any of the stations I traveled through. The machines capped each order at 9 tickets. You could make more than one order, but their was an overall limit per transaction (I think it was two orders of 9, and a third one of 4 or 5 tickets).

The ticket t+ booklets of 10 are generally still available. You will know for sure as soon as you attempt to purchase them. The booklets were sold at 16.90€, individual tickets are 1.90€. If you are forced to purchase fewer than 10 at once, you will be paying the equivalent of 19.90€ per group of 10.

10 tickets t+ purchased for use on the Easy card costs 14.90€

I was just there in May and could only find the card. You just add to it right at the station. I was told there were no more paper tickets, but it could have been just the shops I went to.

I was in Paris last week until Friday and had no trouble buying carnets or 1-day passes from the machines. Lines can be long if it is a busy time or there are too many of us tourists trying to read French rather than clicking the English button. LOL. Like someone else said, carnets are 16.9 Euro for ten. Heading back to Paris in 12 hours to use the rest of my tickets.

Getting a carnet of tickets is spotty -- but it is simple to get single or multiple singles from the machines.

Honestly the navigo easy card is the way to go. You don't have to fumble around for tickets. I keep mine in my shirt pocket and away I go. I do feel nostalgic about the paper tickets, that's for sure, but they have really helped wase the pain by reducing the machines that accept the paper tickets. It can be a bit annoying finding the one or two that takes them.

I believe the OP doesnt want to have to buy 5 separate navigo passes since you can't share them on the same ride. The carnets were still there when I was there in May and my party of 4 were able to share them for the trips we took (although I actually separately got tickets on my phone (it's an android) because I wanted to see how it worked (it's pretty cool, you dont have to have the app with the tickets open, it just knows your phone has them on there somehow)).

As an aside, if you ride the bus. Do not board the bus from the back. They will fine you and they will not care that you are a tourist and don't speak the langauge. The bus police really hassled this Polish couple that followed my wife onto the back of the bus (she had a stroller) and forced them to pay 150 euro each I believe, despite their having paper tickets that they were on their way to validate. They also hassled me while I was trying to validate my wife's ticket and really did not believe that I had validated a ticket on my phone and aggressively checked it.

Also the buses no longer let you just pay 2 euros when you get on. They have a phone number you can text to pay somehow, but I couldn't get it to work. Although the bus driver just wanted to see that I had texted the number. It was only two minutes later that I got a responsive text saying that I failed to get it to work. Anyway, have tickeets or a pass when you get on the bus.

Edited to add that texting to pay is different than the tickets I had on my phone through the App.

I know that at several metro stations on this week they have signs up saying they have no more Carnets. I’m sure you can still find them but they’re definitely phasing them out

While most buses only allow boarding from the front, the double length buses allow boarding in the back as well.

True, tourists hold no special status, we are fined for infractions just like anyone else.

The ticket accès à bord is no longer sold by the bus driver. It is possible to use your mobile phone to purchase a ticket d´accès à bord, cost is 2€. The process is easy, but most visitors will probably find it difficult to meet the basic requirements, not the least of which is a phone contract with FREE, Orange, SFR, or Bouygues Telecom.

Thank you for all of the helpful responses. I was able to get carnets from the machine, just like I hoped and we had a perfect 24 hrs in Paris!
