Paris On A Sunday

I will arrive in Paris on Saturday, 11/5 for a one week visit. My birthday is the following day, and I'm trying to think of something special or unique to do that day. This is my 5th trip to Paris and I've gone to most of the museums I'm interested in, though I do plan to revisit some during the week I'm there. That Sunday is free admission day at the museums, so I think those will wait for other days. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Andrea, The French celebrate their birthdays seated at a table, so why don't you, too. I suggest "Ciel de Paris" in the Montparnasse tower where you'd have a good view of the Eiffle Tower and everything else while sipping a before-lunch cocktail. Reservations required. After lunch you could wander toward the Seine and a boat ride; one never tires of taking that same boat ride up and down the River. At least that's what I'd do.

Thanks Bets! I had a list of restaurants that I was looking up and had just checked your suggestion out minutes before I saw your response. Because it's all about the views, do you think it's better for lunch (daylight) or dinner (dark)? I've done several Seine cruises over the years, always at night. Is there an advantage to doing it during the day?

There's a new Gourmet bus tour called BUSTRONOME that has received quite a bit of attention. Those I know who tried it raved about the food. I, myself, and going to try it on Christmas Night. You can also pair it with a show at LIDO on the Champs-Elysees.

Since November 6 is the first Sunday the Champs Elysees should be car free. If you have been to Paris multiple times it may hold no appeal but I found it interesting to stroll down the middle of the boulevard with locals and tourists alike.

There's really nothing special about taking a Seine cruise during the day - especially in November. If you've already done this several times, I'd think of something else to do.

As for going to a popular restaurant for the view, you do always have to reserve well in advance. What happens if the weather's nasty and there is no view?

What about Les Ombres? If the weather's nasty, you'll still have a pretty decent view of the Eiffel Tower. I'd recommend going for dinner, when the ET is illuminated. http://www.lesombresrestaurant.mobi/

Some great suggestions! Please keep them coming.

Alexander, the BUSTRONOME sounds intriguing. I've been on the Wine Train in the Napa Valley and it sounds like a similar experience. Enjoying food and scenery at the same time can't be a bad thing.

Chexbres, you make some very good points. Les Ombres looks like an excellent option.
