Paris Olympics Pass Jeux

We are going for the first week of the Olympics, and AirBNB told us we needed to get the Pass Jeux.

We both applied as instructed, and both got denied, but for different reasons... One of us because they said our address was not in the red zone (which it actually is in the red zone), and the other reaswon given was that while our address was in the red zone, we did not need the Pass Jeux because we were only walking and not driving (or biking!).

We told out AirBNB host that we were confused about this, and he agreed because he says everyone in Paris is also confused...

Is anyone else having similar experience? Any link to a clear explanation of how the Pass Jeux works (not the official site, which is English, but poorly translated from French!

“ and the other reaswon given was that while our address was in the red zone, we did not need the Pass Jeux because we were only walking and not driving (or biking!).”

This is correct. The red zone remains freely accessible for cyclists and pedestrians. You only need a Pass Jeux if you want to drive a motorized vehicle into the red zone. It very clearly says this on the official Pass Jeux website;

“ You don’t need a Pass
If you’re on foot, bike, cargo bike or scooter, you don’t need a Pass Jeux:
To access the red perimeters around the opening Ceremony, Olympic and Paralympic venues and road events. “

See here; https://www.pass-jeux.gouv.fr/en/concerned/ and scroll down to the heading “You don’t need a pass”

I too am a little confused. I had read the earlier forum post and a mention of the Pass Jeux in Rick's recent blog post which sent me to the actual website. The translation of the site is a rough read.

It sounds like pedestrians just need to understand that they are restricted from the grey zone, unless they have a ticket to watch an Olympic or Paralympic event, correct?

I'm having difficulty figuring out if on the days between the Olympics and the Paralympic Games the restrictions are lifted. Those days would be August 12-27.

I will be in Paris from August 25-30, and hope to be at a Paralympic Basketball game on August 29. As long as I walk to the venue with my ticket, I shouldn't have any issues getting into the grey zone, correct?

@Lisa; Please check the official website I linked to in my earlier post and scroll down to paragraph 02. You’ll find a handy table which states that “ticketed spectators” are allowed to enter the grey perimeter around the competition venue without a Pass Jeux.

Five of us are staying in an Air BnB in Versailles near the Equestrian venues and in the red zone. We will be talking to and from the venue; however we are arriving by taxi on July 29. I am having trouble understanding if we need a Pass Jeux to arrive by taxi, if we may come and go by train without a pass, and if we do need one how do we apply? Are we considered residents and we are not staying in a hotel? First trip to Paris for all of us - any help is appreciated. Karen

@Dutch-traveler
But farther down the page it says:

“The Olympic opening Ceremony takes place on July 26, 2024 on the Seine in Paris. The security arrangements include two perimeters:
The grey perimeter
The red perimeter

These perimeters will be activated 8 days before the event: from July 18 to July 26. They will be active 24 hours a day.

Anyone over the age of 13 must have a Pass Jeux, even when using a vehicle.”

Which seems to say a Pass Jeux IS needed…

Use the interactive map. Punch in your address and your date. If it's not in a grey perimeter you're fine and don't need one. Red zones are accessible by pedestrians and cyclists.

After July 26th, you most likely do not need a Pass Jeux as well. The only reason is if you were in a motorized vehicle needing to access your place which is in a red zone (or cross into any red area inside of a motorized vehicle). Taxis can't pick up or drop off people who need to access red zones unless the passenger carries a Pass Jeux.

July 18-26 is the key period for the pass, not knowing your dates.
