Paris Olympics

Paris Olympics are being broadcast on NBC. Currently there are interviews with the athletes and others and Red Carpet with celebrities. Soon the Opening Ceremonies.

There are also many outlets live streaming and I assume that cable is broadcasting as well.

It is raining but the views pf Paris are breathtaking.

I love the Olympics.

Happily I get CBC, more substance less blather.

Factoid: Last Summer Olympic opening to be rained on-- Helsinki ( 1952)

Not sure, but I think it was Bhutan, that had one athlete and had a gorgeous mahogany speed boat. My vote for best boat.

Interesting to see the variety of river boats/barges that there are.

The opening ceremonies are just fabulous -- the rain didn't daunt them. Beautiful design, very French, very creative (what wa with those women on tall sticks bobbing on the bridge?). just wonderful and I love the way they really showcased the city itself -- from the canal underground and the catacombs to the playgrounds to the rooftops. Wonderful.

Loved the romance sequence in the reading room of the Bibliothèque National Richelieu.

I wondered the same thing, Janet. Were they real? How DID THEY DO THAT? Much of art is engineering or is it much of engineering is art? I was transfixed by the mechanical, metal horse gliding on the Seine. It was actually moved by a submarine! It was otherworldly.

Years ago we were at the Pompidou at Christmas time and there was a mobile outside --huge hung from a crane and on each little object on the mobile there was a person standing and playing an instrument -- little round platform for their feet and a belt around their waist. they rotated and swung around 10 or 15 meters above the courtyard below. It was quite wonderful. The French have a way with this sort of thing.
