Paris. Oct 5-9 Budget Hotel? Price range: around $150 US or less.
Which ones have a good location and price?
Check out the youth hostels, most are gd for any age and more have private rooms now. Also check Ibis budget hotel which is part of accor chain. There are a few in Paris nr metro stations. Very reasonable and very clean.
Tom,
We stayed at Hotel Diana in the Latin Quarter, & paid €126/night for a twin room this June.
The hotel is very centrally located, near La Sorbonne University. It has A/C, a small elevator, it's clean with comfortable beds & it has helpful, friendly staff.
Enjoy Paris!
I like Hotel Diana. Also Hotel Cluny Sorbonne, Hotel Marignan on Rue du Sommerard, and Hotel des Artes Bastille.
Ah, Hotel Marignan. I still remember it from my first visit to Paris in 1987 - threadbare towels, rickety stairs and crunchy breakfast baguette. It was wonderful though.
Have you thought of using Hotwire? I'm seeing lots of hotels, 4-star or better, in central Paris, under $100 per night for your dates. The catch? You have to pay for it now and it is nonrefundable and you won't find out the actual name and address until you do. But I've done it and survived.
Normally, I think you can do better, when you want a double room, at a small hotel than hostels. In Paris, however, the price at hostels is still quite a bit better than a hotel. You should check the Mije. It's really well located in the Marais and gets consistently great reviews. If not there, there's a less inspiring (but clean) HI out by the Republique Metro.
How many people? What do you consider to be a good location?
You should have lots of options at that price.
A friend of mine just stayed here and liked it a lot. They paid 130€ for a large double room: http://en.astotel.com/hotel/hotel-le-34b-2/overview
Tom I have stayed at both Hotel Diana.. and Hotel St Pierre ( the one near the Sorbonne .. there are hotels with similar names) and both are good budget stays in EXCELLANT central areas.. walk to many sights, close to buses and metros.. so convenient.
I haven't stayed at this hotel but friends have and its a good budget choice also.. Hotel College du France.
The Hotel Jeanne d'Arc in the Marais, and the Hotel de l'Esperance in the 5th near rue Mouffetard, both around 100 euro and just fine.
Have you thought about renting an apartment through Airbnb? We were in Europe for 13 weeks last summer with 2 grandchildren and almost exclusively rented apartments. We were in Paris for 40 nights and rented a lovely 3 bedroom, 2 bath apartment for about $90 a night. Of course it was probably that reasonable because of the length of our stay, but apartments are really the way to go. Read the reviews and e-mail the hosts for any questions you may have. We have been very pleased with Airbnb.
We stayed at the Hotel Paris France near the Plaza de Republique. I don't remember the cost, but I'm sure it fit into your range. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was clean and the location worked for us. We walked to the Seine almost every day, but it is also close to a Metro stop or two.
I really liked Hotel Familia in the Latin quarter. I am staying there again in a couple weeks for 129Euro
In August, my daughter and I had 3 nights at Eiffel Segur at the beginning of our trip and 2 at Hotel St Pierre upon our return from Normandy. Eiffel Segur rooms seemed to be newly renovated. The rooms were lovely, a bit small but very well laid out but the bathroom was a great size, more a typical NA hotel style. There seemed to be a number of interesting looking restaurants and shops but most were closed for August holidays/Feast of the Assumption holiday. Staff was great and the location was also convenient to many attractions and the metro. The only negative was wifi which was not available throughout our entire stay. At the end of our trip we stayed at Hotel St Pierre, just off Blvd. Saint Michel. The location is excellent, the room was fine. Clean, but the bathroom is very, very, small. Staff was nice and wifi was excellent. Walking distance to many sights, a Monoprix open until 11 for any snacks, essentials and direct access to CDG by the RER, about a 2 minute walk away. Both were approximately CAD$100 night mid August. I would stay at both again. I've also stayed at Hotel Cluny and the location is excellent but we ruled it out for our visit as it did not have A/c.
